Yoga mat bag

A quick sewing project from last week. This is a yoga mat bag for my sister in law. The fabric is a gift from lovely Iveta of Wonderosa. You might remember that I’ve made one of them in this dress. It is just a simple unlined drawstring bag with cotton webbing for straps, my own pattern. The diameter of the bag is quite too big for my yoga mat, but my sister in law had sent the dimension of her bag and it is bigger than mine. I think her mat is thicker. My husband will go to Indonesia this week […]

Jamie jeans

I noticed Named patterns for the first time when I read Cathy’s post in Treadling in Benin. And when I checked them out, I immediately loved the patterns. Named patterns is a new indie pattern company from Finland, they offer PDF patterns with clean lines, simple looks and interesting details. For my first taste, I ordered Jamie jeans pattern. From the description: “Skinny jeans with regular waist and front seams. Nice and unusual front pockets. The thin pocket panel can be made of back side of denim or any other contrasting material. Choose an elastic denim.” Each pattern only includes […]

Screen printing newbie: ARK dog scarves

I recently volunteered to make these dog scarves for ARK to replace the worn-out ones. The old ones are slip-on type with casing to thread the collar, which is perfectly fine if there is only one or two dogs. But when there are five or more dogs, taking the collar off and putting it back again can be quite a hassle, so they asked me to make a non slip-on scarves. After several prototypes, I came up with this one. The scarf is double layered, topstitched around the edge, has rounded edge, and a small loop to keep the ends […]

Nude and black slip (Merckwaerdigh O2)

In spite of the lack of the sewing posts in this blog, I’ve been sewing a lot lately but never really got the chance to post them. During summer holiday, the house is always full of Sidra’s friends. They have recently found Minecraft, which means that I can’t use the computer during the day. But now the summer holiday is over and the computer is mine again! This is a slip that I finished sometime ago. I’ve been wanting to have a proper slip to wear under some of my dresses. The pattern is Merckwaerdigh O2, the description of the […]

Garnet tops (+ dog tees)

As you might know, my wardrobe is mostly consisted of dresses, which is something that I had wanted to fix since the beginning of the year. But there were always some pretty dress patterns that distracted my attention and I kept making more dresses. A couple of months ago I bought these pair of denim from Modcloth on a whim. Note to self: there are certain times each month when I have to avoid online shopping site. Anyway, it is a high-waisted skinnies in stretchy materials and was the most loved item in denim section so I clicked and bought […]

Summer kimono

For Bashu, that is. One might ask, why would a dog need a summer kimono? But let’s not dwell unto this and just enjoy these cuteness! Isn’t she soooo adorable wearing the little kimono? The pattern is Yukata from my favorite dogwear pattern store, MillaMilla. It is a Japanese pattern store and I had used their patterns to make several dogwear for Duff. MillaMilla also has an English site and an etsy shop. Since I bought the pattern from the Japanese site, the instructions are in Japanese. But as usual Japanese instructions always have lots of helpful diagram so I […]

Shweshwe sarouel

This is the second Sheshwe fabric that Emily from Stitch had sent me. The pattern is called New Mountain. I love that it is sort of optical illusion where you can either see a weave pattern or zigzag pattern. Sidra saw the fabric the other day and demanded a pair of pants to be made with this fabric. He is undergoing a style change at the moment. A few months ago he said that his style is daaku (dark), hence the black shoes, black t-shirts, dark pants, and skull pattern. But recently he announced that he is not daaku anymore, […]

Shweshwe Hazel dress

Sometime ago I got a message from Emily who has just opened her online sewing store in South Africa. She offered me a few metres of Shweshwe fabric of my choice to use for my sewing. Maybe I’m ignorant, but it was the first time I’ve ever heard about Shweshwe fabric so of course I was quite interested. When I browsed around her store and saw the fabric, I realized that I’ve seen them before but I just didn’t know the name of that fabric. The more you know! Shweshwe is 100% cotton that is preserved with starch in the […]

Men’s jeans (Kwik Sew 3504)

I made a new pair of jeans for my husband! I usually use Pumila Men’s Jeans pattern (from A Japanese shop, now closed), but I wanted to try other pattern. This is Kwik Sew 3504, from the pattern envelope: “Men’s jeans have fly zipper, waistband with belt carriers, back yoke, back patch pockets, front pockets, a coin pocket, and topstitching detail. View A legs are straight cut and View B are boot cut.” . Unlike his previous jeans where I made muslin first, this time I just dived into the precious denim with bravery (I don’t like making muslins!). The […]

Pink bra set

A new set! It is made with lingerie kit that I won in a Merckwaerdigh ebay auction sometime ago. The bra pattern is my usual Pin-Up Girls #1230 size 30D that has been altered to 26F. The cups are lowered a bit for a demi style. I also changed the back style a bit so I can wear the bra with this dress without the band peeking. The band has one row of hook and eye instead of three that I usually wear, but the band is still wide as I like it. Making your own bra is so fun […]
