Lempi button down dress

I had been wanting to make the Lempi button dress by Named patterns for sometime, but hadn’t found the perfect fabric and occasion. My son Sidra was going to graduate from junior high school and I thought it would be a great reason to finally make this dress!   This is a midi-length button down dress with self fabric belt to cinch the waist. All the details are simple, and that’s what attracted me to this pattern. With the right fabric, I think it can also be worn as a spring coat. I made mine in size 36, one size bigger […]

Kielo wrap dress #2

In my previous post about my Kielo wrap dress, I mentioned that I wasn’t quite happy with my fabric choice. So here is my second Kielo wrap dress! The fabric is quite interesting, it is actually two separate layers of thin jersey connected together around each dots. Not much to say about alteration nor construction. The only difference that I made for this dress is finishing the armhole and necklines with knit band instead of bias binding. I’m quite happy with this version! The dress is very comfortable and flattering. Pattern is Kielo wrap dress by Named patterns (PDF), size […]

Kielo wrap dress

This is the second dress that I made from the fabrics that I bought in Indonesia. The beautiful print and color combination caught my eyes immediately. The price is also a bargain at about USD5/meter. The fabric is stretch polyester and quite slinky. I knew that I wanted to make a dress with it, preferably with as little seamlines as possible so the beautiful print wouldn’t be cut. So I was quite happy when I stumbled upon Kielo wrap dress by Named patterns, a simple maxi dress with an interesting shape. It has diamond shape with two waist ties […]

Drape Drape dress no. 3

When in Indonesia last month, I met up with a couple of my good friends. They are both fashion designers, so of course one of our destinaton was the fabric store! I had often visited fabric stores with them about 20 years ago when the three of us were in fashion school, so it was quite a nostalgic journey. The store is called Pronto Moda in Mayestik area, Jakarta, quite a big store with four floors and a considerable choice of fabrics. It was not crowded at all, so the shopping experience was really comfortable. My friend told me that the fabrics in the […]

Komani cape dress – Bootstrap Fashion

This is the Komani cape dress, the second pattern that I made from Bootstrap Fashion. As I have mentioned in my previous post about Bootstrap Fashion, the patterns are drafted according to your individual body measurements including height and other details like belly protuberance and upper arm circumference, among other things. This pattern is one of the exclusive design made by indie designers who use the same Leko fit customization technology. Bootstrap Fashion allows indie designers to set their own price, that is why these patterns are set on much higher price than other Bootstrap Fashion patterns. I was attracted to the dress’ many interesting […]

Cap sleeves dress – Bootstrap fashion

A couple of months ago, I was approached by Bootstrap Fashion to try their custom-fit sewing patterns. Unlike with other pattern companies, you don’t have the option of choosing regular sizes when buying their patterns. Instead, you put your own detailed measurements, and Bootstrap Fashion will prepare a pattern customized just for your body! Isn’t this a great idea? I always have to make petite adjustments when using sewing patterns. Other people always need tall adjustment, short waist, full bust adjustment, and other things. With this system, you don’t have to worry about all of these adjustments! Of course it is […]

Long sleeve ruched dress

I really like the fabric that I used for my red dress that I also bought the same fabric in black and deep green. I used part of the black to make a pencil skirt, and this is the green one. The pattern is also from Burdastyle with my usual petite alteration. I really love the ruched detail on the side seam and the raglan sleeves. The original pattern also has ruched detail on the sleeves but my fabric is a bit thicker than ordinary jersey so I eliminated it. The pattern is only three pieces, front, back, and sleeves. If you […]

Red knit dress

I’ve been wanting to have a simple and comfortable knit dress for daily wear. It is not very easy to find the right fabric, medium weight fabric that is not too thick nor too thin. So when I spotted this red double jersey in the fabric store, I snatched it rightaway. They also have army green and black that I have bought as well. I was sent the Sew and Draft Your Own Personal 7 Piece Workout Wear Collection course by Burdastyle, and several knit slopers are included in the course. I’m still planning my workout wear collection, and in the meantime I […]

Hooded cowl neck dress

A new dres! The pattern is Burdastyle hooded cowl neck dress in grey jersey. I love how simple and easy to sew the pattern is, while looking so interesting with the giant cowl neck. The description of the pattern: “This cowl neck dress has a deep cowl that can be transformed into a hood whenever the mood strikes. It has long sleeves and can be worn in the winter months with high boots and tights.” The pattern only has three pieces. The cowl neck is integrated to the front bodice pattern, making the front bodice pattern looking very interesting. I made all the seams […]

Summer date dress

Since Sidra entered Junior High School, he becomes very busy with all the school activities. He even has to be at school on weekends for his sports club activity. My husband and I got a bit lost on what to do as the three of us usually did things together on weekends. But we have to get used to this. Eventually Sidra will have to be by himself as he grows up so maybe it is time to start letting him go. One of the thing that my husband and I are starting to do at weekends is having a […]
