Aeolian tees

These two tees have been in rotation for my daily wear recently. They are easy and comfortable, with enough details to make it more interesting than ordinary store-bought tees. The pattern is Aeolian tee by Pattern Fantastique. I was very happy with my Terra pants that I started to look at other patterns from the maker. This tee immediately caught my eyes, as it is perfect for the warmer weather at the moment. The pattern is quite simple and straightforward. It has a boxy shape, with several length options from tee length to ankle length dress. Other interesting details are […]

Red Kochi kimono

Hello and happy new year! It’s winter and I’m surrounded by the darks and greys that people are wearing. I thought something bright would make me feel better as I’m still not used to the cold winter, despite having been living here for several years. The pattern is Kochi kimono by Papercut patterns. From the description of the pattern:  “A boxy cropped jacket for any season. Make it in wool for winter or soft chiffon for summer, our three variations provide plenty of options. Features optional lining, 3/4 sleeves, drop shoulder, side seam splits, tie front and front patch pockets.” The simple […]

Rite of Spring Shorts and Kommatia crop top

I was browsing the newest collection on Papercut Patterns’ website when I caught the sight of these shorts. The Rite of Spring Shorts is actually from their old collection, it has been around for several years now. Somehow I have never thought of them before. I happened to have some leftover denim that would be perfect for this pattern! The shorts have a quite flattering detail with the side seams moving forward at the top. To accentuate this interesting side seams, I topstitched them with rust-colored thread. The rise is quite high for my petite frame so I shortened the length […]

Aomori twist top and Kyoto tee

Papercut patterns has recently launched their new collection, titled ‘Sakura’. OMG have you seen it?? I fall in love with the whole collection and had to restrain myself from buying everything. So far I have gotten these two top patterns, Aomori twist top and Kyoto tee. The Aomori twist top has very interesting shaped pattern pieces that created the twist front. It has two options of sleeve lengths and can be made from knit or woven. My version was made with striped knit and supposed to be a muslin, but I love the result so much!   Despite the complicated appearance, […]

I Love Tops I Love Pants

Loooong overdue post! A few months ago I bought a couple of Japanese sewing pattern books called ‘I Love Tops’ and ‘I Love Pants’, both by Yuko Takada. The books feature tops and pants that look pretty casual and comfortable. I’ve been very happy with a couple of tops and one pair of pants that I’ve made from them. So it looks like I will continue making other patterns from these books. Top A is called ‘Half Sleeve Peplum Cut & Sewn’. In Japanese patterns, the term ‘cut & sewn’ means that the item is made from knit fabric. I have […]

Yoga set OHM – Schnittchen patterns

Here’s my contribution to Schnittchen’s Sewing Around The World project. In case you haven’t heard of it, the project features 12 sewing bloggers around the world sewing Schnittchen pattern. My pattern is called Yoga set OHM, it is actually from the Winter 2015 collection. As the name suggests, this is a set of patterns for tank top, leggings, and a sweater made of jersey. You can wear them for yoga and they are comfortable too for lounging at home. Schnittchen patterns also sent me the fabrics. They are organic cotton jersey from Lebenskleidung in Berlin. These fabrics are so beautiful and comfortable! These […]

Cara top and Sally skirt

Since the weather is getting warm, I’ve been seeing off-shoulder tops everywhere around me. I began to look for sewing patterns and came across this relatively new pattern by Style Arc: Cara top. The description on the pattern page: “This on-trend top gives a gorgeous look with its flattering, gathered, off the shoulder neckline with a floaty raglan sleeve. The elastic at the back neck band keeps the shoulder line in shape. Wear it with jeans or dress it up with a fabulous print to wear to a special occasion.” I cut size 6 without alterations. Since I’m petite, this top […]

Yogawear

I have started to go to a yoga class several months ago, in addition to daily exercise at home. After seeing Gingermakes’ post about her yoga leggings, I got very inspired to make my own! I considered using Fehr Trade Steeplechase Leggings pattern like her, but at the end I chose Ooh La Leggings by Papercut Patterns. The reason was because I’ve used Papercut Patterns several times before with good result. I had no idea about what kind of fabric that I should use, so I picked this black soft ponte knit at the store.  The content is 73% polyester, 21% rayon, […]

Sandra jeans and Basic tank

I made a new pair of jeans! Actually they were made a couple of weeks ago, and I have been wearing them a lot ever since. The pattern is Sandra narrow leg jeans by Style Arc, a classic narrow legs jeans with contoured waistband slightly below waist. I love this pattern since I made them last year, the first one that I made get lots of wear. The fabric is dark denim, it has less stretch than the previous jeans so the fit is a bit different. I find it funny that you can see a dachshund in these pictures, similar to the one in […]

Burdastyle Wide Sleeve Lapel Jacket

This is my favorite jacket in the last couple of months. You have probably seen me wearing it to Sidra’s elementary school graduation here. The pattern is Wide Sleeve Lapel Jacket 02/2015 #122 from Burdastyle. The jacket has boxy shape with wide straight sleeves, wide lapel, and wide back pleats. It is an unlined jacket with no closure so it’s perfect for when the weather is not too cold. The jacket reminds me of my old jacket that I made in 2010. I lost it during a visit to IKEA! So sad. The fabric is wool in this undescribable color. Recently I have […]
