Sewing in 2013

Can’t you believe that it is already the end of the year again?? As usual I love to put together all things that I have sewn in one post to see how I have been doing this year. Some pieces got worn a lot, and some don’t get much wearing time. I think it helps me to see what I should be making next or what kind of style that I’m into at this moment. For myself: tops, pants, skirt, a coat, a bathing suit, and as usual more dresses! For the dogs: We started to foster dog this year […]

Dog onesies

Winter is not the most enjoyable time for a 7 years old Chinese Crested and 14 years old Chihuahua, I made them these onesies so they can do their daily activities comfortably. When I say daily activities, it means sleeping all day on their heated dog bed. The pattern is Dog coverall by MillaMilla, size M for Fuwawa and size S for Okowa.  The onesies have open tummy and backside elastic around the tummy so they will stay in place. The pattern actually has waist seam so different fabric can be used to make it looks like separate top and pants. […]

Zebra print Lady Skater dress

To tell you the truth, I’ve never heard of Kitschy Coo before they released the Lady Skater dress pattern a few months ago. Every version of the dress that popped up around the net is looking so good that I couldn’t resist joining the bandwagon. Here’s the description of the Lady Skater dress pattern from the Kitschy Coo website: “This funky yet functional knit dress has a fitted bodice, scooped banded neckline, a curved flared knee-length skirt, and options for trimmed cap sleeves, or banded ¾ length sleeves or long sleeves. It’s designed to flatter the figure with a waistline that hits […]

Ikat Sigma dress

I’ve been hearing lots of good things about Papercut Patterns, recently they have just launched the new Constellation Collection in discount price so I thought it was the perfect time to get my first Papercut pattern! They also have free shipping which I like because the pattern price is really the amount I’m going to pay. I especially love the pretty package, a brown box with cut out details and hanger shaped closure. The pattern pieces and the instructions are printed on brown recycled paper and the instructions can be cut and folded neatly into a mini booklet. So neat! This is […]

Dotty red lingerie set

The first time I made my first pair of strapless bra, I made my own foam lining because I couldn’t find it locally. This time I want to use the proper ones so I ordered them from Makebra. Their foam lining is 4 mm thick and sold in 20x145cm (8″x57″) pieces. I bought two pieces, white and black. The pattern is the same one that I’ve used before, Merckwaerdigh Strap4. From the description in Merckwaerdigh’s store: “a lovely mix of strapless lingerie : a bra and a bustier – body – thongbody where the underwires are invisible at the outside. These designs can be worn […]

Boy’s cape

When Sidra was still in kindergarten, I made him  a cute wool cape with faux fur lining for winter. He was very happy wearing it and enjoyed running around pretending he was a super-something. As years went by, he has outgrown the cape and it found a new owner (that might have outgrown the cape by now). Although the cape has long gone, Sidra often talks about it fondly and has been asking me to make him another. Well, a cape might look cute on a toddler, but it might not be the best clothing choice for an active fifth grader. He […]

Dog raincoat

I made a raincoat for Fuwawa so she can still have her walk in rainy days. She’s not too thrilled having to wear a raincoat but at least she can still enjoy her favorite time of the day. The fabric is raincoat fabric with colorful pattern that I bought in Okadaya, Shinjuku. The pattern is, again, from MillaMilla. I really love all the dogwear pattern from this store! This time I bought the PDF pattern from their etsy shop, so it is in English. The raincoat has hood that can be hidden in the wide collar and a cute little cape. […]

Boy tee and dog hoodie

So I found this long sleeved t-shirt with rather ridiculous cowl neckline in the men’s section of a thrift shop. My first thought was: wow, look at all those fabric! The color is actually light grey with black printed pattern, it is rather thick jersey in good quality. I bought the item for about USD5. My favorite pattern for making Sidra’s long-sleeved T-shirt is Biscuit by Tamanegi-Kobo, a Japanese pattern store. The sleeves are very interesting, they look like regular sleeves from the front and raglan sleeves from the back. I’ve used this pattern several times here, here, and here. […]

Laurie tee

My second Named Clothing pattern! This one is called Laurie striped tee. Here’s the description from the website: “A classic T-shirt with wide horizontal pleats on front that create a striped effect. A loose-fitting and casual model with short sleeves. Choose and elastic tricot, preferably quite thin. A slightly translucent fabric will make the striped effect stand out.” I still don’t like that I have to print, tape, and still do the tracing, but this pattern is only three pieces. I just traced the front and cut the rest from the taped paper. The pattern is drafted for 172 cm, […]

Red plaid set (Merckwaerdigh MIX30)

A lingerie set with plaid lycra and black stretch lace. The plaid lycra is from elingeria closing down sale a few months ago. I’m still sad that they are closed! The stretch lace and lingerie notions are from Merckwaerdigh ebay store. The pattern is Merckwaerdigh MIX30, I have used the panties pattern numerous times. The bra pattern was also used a couple of times before but this time was in the right size. I started with size 30D and shortened the band slightly to make it size 28E. This is the only alteration I did on this pattern. I found out […]
