Mission Maxi Dress #2

Since I made my grey Mission Maxi dress, I’ve been wearing it everyday that I’m sure my husband is tired of seeing me in that dress. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, in this case, I have to wash that dress once in a while. So here comes another Mission Maxi! I’m officially in love with this pattern. This is like the easiest sewing I’ve ever done, sew the straps – sew the bindings – sew the sides of dress, and within half an hour I got a pretty and comfortable dress. The fabric is double-gauze […]

Mission Maxi dress

The heat is still on and I don’t know how everyone else do some sewing these days. The other day, I was browsing my pattern stash longingly when this pattern caught my attention. It was Mission Maxi sewing pattern by Jamie Christina that I got as part of my Spring Top prize last year. The pattern is quite simple, a maxi-length jersey dress with only 2 pattern pieces for view A and B. I figured this would be the perfect dress to make in this weather. I’ve seen this pattern made around the sewing blogs before -check out these pretty […]

Sleeveles T-shirts

Next for KCWC 2012, four sleeveless T-shirts for Sidra! I bought most of Sidra’s t-shirts from Threadless, unfortunately they don’t have sleeveless ones for kids. As the weather is getting warmer, Sidra has started wearing sleeveless so I made these. They are recycled from adult-sized T-shirts that I got from the thrift store. The pattern is from Japanese pattern book,  シンプル&ちょこっとデザイン おんなの子服おとこの子服, the same book as the one I’ve used for Sidra’s pants. I spent one day for cutting the pieces and arranging them. The green and purple T-shirts were kinda small but the brown and black ones were quite […]

Splotches jersey dress (Vogue 1285)

A new dress! I made this dress to try out sewing with the Babylock. The pattern is Vogue 1285 by Tracy Reese, one of the Vogue new spring collection. From the envelope: “Lined, mock wrap dress has collar, close-fitting bodice with bands/hook&eye, fitted skirt, overlay with mock band, belt loops, sleeve bands and invisible left side zipper. Darts are stitched on the right side of fabric. Lining forms attached slip with shoulder and lingerie straps.” The fabric is polyester jersey from my stash. It has green and brown splotches pattern with golden threads weft in between. Unfortunately the camera doesn’t seem to catch the golden […]

My Renfrew Top

If you’re following Sewaholic blog (which you must!), you must have known that Tasia has just released her latest pattern, The Renfrew Top. It’s a basic knit top pattern with three neckline and sleeve options; and I was lucky to be one of the pattern tester!   It is a simple pattern, easy to sew, yet has a professional and clean result. My favorite part is the sleeve and hem bands, no stretched out hems! You don’t have to use serger to sew the top. My Renfrew top was entirely sewed with zigzag stitch on my Janome set on 0.5-1 on width and 3 on […]

Camouflage print T-shirt

Another T-shirt for Sidra, made with cotton knit in muted camouflage pattern. I don’t really like camouflage print, but Sidra asked me to make something for him in this print. I found this fabric in Yuzawaya, Shunjuku. The camouflage print is a bit desaturated, which makes it not as harsh as the original camouflage and actually I kinda like it! It was in the section for babies’ fabric, so the fabric is very soft and comfortable. I usually use zigzag stitch on my sewing machine for sewing knit fabric, but this time I used straight stitch with special thread. The thread looks like […]

KCWC: Broken striped T-shirt

Found a T-shirt in a thrift shop with similar pattern as my broken striped top but in black stripes. I refashioned into a T-shirt for Sidra. The original top is not very big, so I use black jersey from other T-shirt for the sleeves. The pattern is PDF pattern called Biscuit from Tamanegi Kobo, a Japanese pattern shop. It is quite an interesting pattern because the front looks like ordinary T-shirt while from the back it looks like a raglan sleeves T-shirt. Pattern is  Biscuit from Tamanegi Kobo.

KCWC 2011: Red jacket and silver T-shirt

More KCWC 2011 projects! This red jacket is made with parachute fabric and black jersey. I found the parachute in the tiny fabric store near my house, it was very cheap and I still got more than 1 m left. The black jersey is recycled from adult T-shirt. The pattern is called Nectarine, bought as PDF pattern from Tamanegi Kobo, an online Japanese pattern store. The original pattern has button closure, but I changed it to zipper closure. Sewing it was so difficult! The pattern is actually wonderful and the instruction diagrams are very clear, but I have never sewn parachute before […]

KCWC 2011: Boy’s undies from recycled T-shirts

It’s kids clothes week spring 2011! I’m starting it by refashioning Sidra’s T-shirts into undies. Those shirts are still in good condition but all of them have become too small now. It is something that you always encounter when you have kids. I copied one of Sidra’s undies to make the base pattern. Then I made a pair of test undies from old T-shirt so Sidra can tell me what he wanted to change. Yes, I made a muslin for recycled undies…. He wanted his undies to be a bit longer and not too tight around the bum, so I […]

Broken striped top and black shorts

These are the simple shorts that I made yesterday, along with an equally simple top. The waistband of the shorts is elasticized while the front waistband is kept flat, so there’s no need for fastener. The original pattern is for pants but I shortened it and added a row of black cotton lace on the hem. The top is pretty simple with only two pattern pieces, the front and back pattern are the same except for the neckline. Both patterns are from a Japanese pattern magazine called ソーイングナチュリラ vol.4. You can see the top and pants are on the left in this […]
