2010 2010 = 40!

Today is my husband’s 40th birthday! Sidra and I had been thinking about a present for Papa, and he (sneakily) suggested that I should make a plush doll for Papa. Actually my husband likes plushies and other cute stuff, but he never bought one for himself because… , well, because he’s a grown man, I guess? So I think it’s time he has his own plush toy. I let Sidra choose a plushie pattern from Funky Friends Factory, but this time I went directly to the website to buy the PDF pattern. Sidra chose this Platypus pattern for Papa, it’s a […]

Burdastyle Book Project: finished (ugh, finally)

After days of postponing and slacking around, I’ve finally finished my blouse for Burdastyle Book! Actually I planned to work on it just after the Yokohama Artist Market, which was, errr, 3 weeks ago, but lots of things happened between then and now. Suddenly I found the need to make a couch cover, which by the way was something that I should have made months ago. Then I made a pair of shorts and dress for myself. My husband managed to give me a look of slight disapproval (on my procrastination, not on the clothes), but hey, I was just […]

Fabric button necklaces

I always love colourful and big necklaces. So I got an idea of a simple necklace with big fabric-covered button as the pendant. It’s not a new idea actually, there’s already a lot of button accessories everywhere, but I love making them. I think it’s a good way of using fabric scraps that are too pretty to throw away. The pendants are made with Japanese kimono fabrics, the colours are so vibrant and they have some kind of coated sheen over it. I use vintage necklaces for the chain. The necklaces are pretty short, so I use two necklaces and […]

Lesson bag and shoes bag

This is Sidra this morning, about to go to his first day in second grade. I can’t believe how fast time is flying! He was entering first grade not so long time ago and now he’s suddenly a second-grade student. The school will finish early today, so he didn’t have to bring his randoseru (school bag). I made him those new lesson bag and uwabaki (inside shoes) bag yesterday. The fabric is grey cotton with robot print by Kokka, leftover from Sidra’s robot bag. I made it two years ago when he’s still in kindergarten. The fabric wasn’t that much, but I […]

Racerback knit dress/swimsuit coverup

I found this double-gauze knit fabric from nani IRO line in Yuzawaya, and immediately fell in love with its simple but adorable pattern. The fabric is 80 cm in width, so I decided to make a simple dress that can be worn over my swimsuit. Perfect for summer! The shape of the dress is very simple, I make it very wide with enormous armhole and racerback shape. I finished the armhole and neckline by sewing strips of the same fabric, leaving the raw edges show. As the fabric is double-gauze, the bindings show layers of raw edges curling together. The […]

Reversible bags giveaway! – CLOSED

With so many things that I made recently, I think I need to let go some of them to keep the house liveable. So I decided to open an etsy shop! I don’t want to go to overboard with this shop, so I won’t be building a collection or something like that. I will only make things that I like and put them up for sale when I like it. It’s not that I’m not serious about the shop, but I don’t want to loose the excitement of creating stuffs. And well, sometimes I can get so lazy and that […]

The week when my internet went down

Our modem had a problem last week, and since it was provided by our apartment developer, my husband called them to ask for a new one. I couldn’t believe when they said it would take almost a week to send a new modem! What would I do without internet for a week? Erm, okay, I had to calm down. So I went to the sewing room. 1. Family boxers I always wanted to sew boxers for my husband, and finally found the perfect pattern for it in a Japanese pattern book that I borrowed from a local library. It went […]

Dinosaur bag tags

Tomorrow is Sidra’s birthday and also his first birthday in Japan. The end of March to the beginning of April is school holiday in Japan, so he will always be celebrating his birthday at home. Fortunately, the moms from his kindergarten class are arranging a picnic tomorrow, I think it’s great because Sidra can spend his birthday with his friends. I’ve been planning to make something for Sidra’s friends, but as usual I got lazy and keep postponing until the last day. This morning I woke up thinking that I should just buy some cookies and candies for the kids. […]

Red cable mittens

After seeing me with my grey mittens, Sidra promptly requested a pair of similar mittens with ‘snakes’, but in different color. There’s some red wool in my stash, so I use it to make Sidra’s request. I couldn’t find any pattern that fit the yarn or the cable pattern, so I bravely decided to create my own, based loosely on Bella’s Mitten pattern that I used for my grey mittens. And just for fun, the left one has a strip of grey, while the right one has a grey thumb. The pattern was just made up as I was knitting […]

Fingerless mitts and black hood

I’ve finished my fingerless mittens, it was such an unbelievably easy and quick project! Actually they end up a little bit too big and look like a mismatch from different pairs. The right one has so many greens in it while the left one has a big part of black along the middle. The thing about the Noro yarn is that it has so many colors in it that one mitten is not enough to accommodate all the colors. Maybe I should’ve used two skeins and tried to match the colors. And since I’m usually smaller than most regular sizes, […]
