Birthday pants

Yesterday was my husband’s 41st birthday! We made a little celebration in the morning, blowing candles and eating ice cream cake. Sidra gave my husband a handmade card with his own drawing on it and a little gift.

Camel corduroy pants

Looks like I’m making pants all the time. Here’s a pair of corduroy pants for Sidra that I finished yesterday. The pattern is from a Japanese pattern book, シンプル&ちょこっとデザイン おんなの子服おとこの子服 and the fabric is Robert Kaufman cotton corduroy in Camel from Whipstitch fabrics, still from my Spring top winning . The pants have slim legs, patch pockets, and fully elasticized waist. My favorite part is this little triangle details on the back! The back pockets originally have flaps, but I forgot to cut them (-_-). I also added belt loops because Sidra uses them to attach his card wallet. He’s wearing them to school today. […]

Men’s Denim Pants

A new pair of pants for my husband that I finished last week. The pattern is Men’s Jeans from Pumila, a Japanese pattern shop, with the same alteration as his previous jeans. The fabric is 8 oz Indigo denim by Robert Kaufman from Whipstitch fabrics, one of my Spring Top prizes. Since the weight of the fabric is only 8 oz, the pants are quite thin. I forgot to take this into account and didn’t interface the waistband. As a result, the waist area got a little bigger after a while and is not as snug as before. I think I will take it apart and fix […]

Summer shorts and top

I was thinking of making a pair of shorts for summer and decided to make my own pattern as an exercise in pattern drafting. The shorts have shaped waistband, pleated fronts, front slant pocket, and darts on the back side. I also made cuffed legs and used button fly instead of zipper. The fabric is linen chambray with interesting texture that I’ve used a little for the top part of this dress. The pockets are lined with striped linen, also leftover from the same dress. The result is still not too perfect. There were some (very) faint diagonal lines on the […]

Boy’s cropped jeans

The newest jeans that I made for Sidra. The fabric is leftover from my husband’s jeans, which happen to be just enough for a pair of cropped jeans. I hate throwing things away! The pattern is my usual self-drafted one, I think I’ve used it for 5-6 times with slight variations. I use red topstitching instead of burnt orange like in my husband’s jeans. Don’t worry about that peeping tom in white shirt, it’s just my husband (-_-) Sleepy-faced boy is going to school. Sidra is crazy about skull and cross pattern now, so I put a little label on the […]

Men’s Jeans

I finally finished my husband’s jeans! It seems that everyone has finished their jeans, and Peter has even gone to another adventure in making pajama and playing with his serger. But it is still May, so I guess I’m not too far behind the sew-along…. (^_^;) The pattern is Men’s Jeans from Pumila, a Japanese pattern shop. If you still remember my muslin, this is my problem with this jeans pattern. There are a bit of pulling and wrinkles around the back crotch area. I have no experience in fitting pants (I only made dresses!), so I really had no […]

KCWC: Khaki pants

My last project for KCWC 2011!  These pictures were taken today, but actually I’ve finished the pants a couple of days ago. It is again a recycle project, a pair of pants made with my husband’s old and ripped pants. My husband has several pants that were ripped in the most unfortunate places hence he can’t wear them again. Which remind me that I need to finish my husband’s jeans quicker! Anyway, the pattern for these pants is the same as Sidra’s jeans that I drafted sometime ago. I lowered the crotch slightly, widen the leg and cropped the length […]

Jeans sew-along: Wearable muslin!

Coming late for the MPB Jeans Sew-Along, but I finally finished the first muslin for my husband’s jeans. The brushed cotton twill was only 1 m, so the muslin is cropped as I only need to check the fit around waist and hip area. The finished jeans will be full-length. The pattern is Men’s jeans from Pumila, a Japanese pattern shop (paper pattern). They have 5 sizes, but when I checked the measurement chart, my husband is in the biggest size (L). He’s not very big, I wonder if Japanese men are usually small? I love that the pattern is printed […]

Skull and cross pants

The fabric is black medium weight linen/cotton with white and silver skull and cross pattern and I’m not too crazy about it. The idea of silver and gold as fabric is too flashy for my taste. We were browsing around in Yuzawaya, a fabric store, when Sidra saw it and announced on the spot: “I want to wear this fabric.” I’ve tried to change his mind, what about a bag, an apron? “No, I don’t want it as a bag. No, not an apron. I want a pair of pants with this fabric. Yes, I am sure.” Uhhh, okay. I was planning […]

High-waisted pants

The fabric may look like denim, but in fact it is quite lightweight. It’s cheap polyester, initially bought to make a muslin for my husband’s shirt when I changed my mind and used it for my pants instead. I’m sorry! I rarely wear nor make pants for myself, but I ‘d been wanting to try this 1958 McCall’s 4822 pattern. The cheap fabric is perfect for this, just to see how it would look on me. If it turned out horrible, I can pretend that it’s a muslin…. I made view A, the long pants but without the pockets because I didn’t […]
