Black strappy bra

I got intrigued by all those strappy bras that seem to pop up everywhere. They don’t look too comfortable, but they sure look good. Having made all my own lingerie all this time, naturally I would love to make one myself. A custom made strappy bra for myself!   My version is based on Merckwaerdigh PBH30, af frameless push-up bra pattern. It is actually quite simple to make, the cups are made with stretch lace and the rest is lots of straps. It is quite funny how the bra only needs very little scraps of stretch lace. To decide the length of the straps, […]

Lace Brazillians panties – Boobytraps patterns

These lace panties look so weird when not worn, but they actually fit really well on me – surprisingly quite comfortable too! These are a couple of quick things that I made yesterday with a new pattern. I\\’ve heard about Booby Traps patterns before but this Australian-based company only ship to Canada, England, America, and New Zealand. Until recently I found out that they have digital patterns! For my first try, I chose the simplest one (in my opinion) which is the Lace Brazillians. This pattern only needs some stretch lace and cotton jersey for the gusset. Although the pattern and instructions are […]

Soft bra set – Merckwaerdigh BHS10

My first sewing in 2015! Actually I didn’t really plan to make this set. I was tidying up my lingerie supply stash to see what I have when I found some leftover fabric. I made the peach and grey lingerie set in 2011, the bra is not worn anymore as the size turned out to be not quite right. This time I use Merkwaerdigh BHS10 for the pattern. It is such a useful set of patterns with different backs that can be mixed and matched. I chose the soft bra option, the yellow one on the bottom left in this picture. I still have […]

Print mesh bra set

My second self-drafted set! This one is a bra with partial band, or hook-up bra as it is called in Kristina Shin’s ‘Patternmaking for Underwear Design’ book. The panties pattern is also self-drafted using the same book, the same pattern as the ones from my white set. The fabric is mesh fabric with floral print in muted color, part of a Merckwaerdigh kit. The kit actually comes with stretch lace but I only used the mesh fabric. The cups are lined with tricot mesh while the band is lined with powernet. To keep the delicate look, I don’t use foam lining for this bra. The […]

Self-drafted bra set

I just found out that a bra is not called ‘a pair of bra’! My apology if I was being confusing by talking about ‘a pair of bra’ and ended up just posting one. Where’s the other?! There are a pair of shoes, a pair of pants, and bra has two identical things on it just like shoes and pants, so why isn’t it called a pair of bra?? English is confusing…. Anyway… I recently made a new bra and panties set. They may look plain without all the colorful fabric and lace like my previous ones, but I’m so happy […]

Racerback bra

Unfortunately I haven’t continued my adventure in making sports bra, but during my ‘research’ (googling) I came upon this blog post by Katherine. In the post, she has made various types of sports bra prototypes, and one of them was made with Merckwaerdigh BHS10 that I happen to have. I followed Katherine’s lead and modified the pattern so the edges are finished with elastics rather than stretch lace. The fabric is grey jersey with green color on the wrong side, leftover from my Plantain top. The edges are finished with fuchsia plush elastic. My version is not a sports bra though because it doesn’t […]

Making a sports bra

I don’t usually do much sports but when I do, I wear a pair of Panache sports bra. This sports bra is quite wonderful. It is an encapsulated type, which means that each breast is supported individually. The bra is double layered so all the the seams are enclosed between the layers. Since I only have one pair of sports bra, this pair deteriorated rather quickly although I only wear it for a short time about twice a week. I’ve ordered another one but I wonder if I can make myself a pair of decent sports bra. I took apart my old Panache […]

Makebra Petite #DL05: In progress

makeBra recently released a new downloadable pattern and I was quite excited about it. I’ve been wanting to try one of their patterns, but the sizes are too big for me. The newest pattern, makeBra #DL05 is drafted for smaller sizes, featuring foam lined two part cups and underwires. For me, the most interesting part is that the bridge and wing is the same pieces as the cup. You can see the pattern piece in the makeBra sewing tutorial here. I think this design will also look great if you use fabric with stripes or other directional pattern. I bought the size 65C as it is […]

Fuchsia and black bra set

My current favorite bra at the moment is the bronze bra that I made a couple of months ago. The vertical seams on the cups are quite attractive and they’re comfortable to wear. So here is another pair made with the same pattern, Merckwaerdigh BHST2, I made the second variation that have lace inset. This bra pattern actually has interesting low back design but this time I didn’t want a low back so the band has been altered to simple straight band. The cups are fuchsia lycra, lined with Makebra foam lining. The back band are black powernet. The seam between the padded cups and the lace is […]

Bronze bra and panties set

These are Merckwaerdigh BHST2, underwired bra with low back. The panties patterns are Merckwaerdigh MIX30 and Merckwaerdigh Mix25 that I have used several times before. The set was made with a Merckwaerdigh kit which includes fabrics and all notions, enough for one bra and two panties. Using kit like this is great because I can skip the mix and match step and focus on sewing rightaway. In the original pattern, the cups have no padding. Since I was quite happy with the foam lined cups on my last set, I lined these ones with the foam lining from Makebra as well. Usually I don’t like wearing padded bra, but […]
