Oilcloth bags and girl’s dress & hat set

This is a bag that I made as birthday gift for a friend of Sidra. The bag is reversible with oilcloth fabric in different Curious George pattern on both sides and has detachable straps. Actually it is so hard to find a perfect gift for a 7 years old boy! I decided on this bag because the shape is simple and the fabric is easy to clean. It is also can be used to carry swimwear and can be toss around on the beach. As it is reversible, the bag can be easily turned over when the inside is wet […]

Linen wallets

A friend asked me if I could make her a women’s wallet from linen. I’ve never made one, so this sounded challenging and I agreed to try it. I’ve made a billfold wallet for Sidra before, but wasn’t very satisfied with the result. The wallet was too thick to be put under the sewing machine foot, so I had to finish the topstitchings by hand. To make my first try on the women’s wallet, I tried following a tutorial found in the net. There were so many pieces and measurement. From the very beginning, the wallet just wasn’t too neat, […]

Too many bags won’t kill you

I was offered by several nice ladies to join them in a local market held in my area. This market is usually held for two days, once in every season. I’ve been there once, the sellers are usually stay-at-home moms who loves to craft in their spare time, and the buyers are other moms too, so it’s a bit like an inner circle. The place is not really big, but I guess it’s enough to accommodate all of these women from the area who’s interested to come. I decided to make reversible Charlie bags for this occasion because (1) they’re […]

The week when my internet went down

Our modem had a problem last week, and since it was provided by our apartment developer, my husband called them to ask for a new one. I couldn’t believe when they said it would take almost a week to send a new modem! What would I do without internet for a week? Erm, okay, I had to calm down. So I went to the sewing room. 1. Family boxers I always wanted to sew boxers for my husband, and finally found the perfect pattern for it in a Japanese pattern book that I borrowed from a local library. It went […]

Art bag

I finally finished Sidra’s art bag! Of course I could have bought an art bag with a set of drawing equipments inside it already, but that wouldn’t be fun. So I made the bag, and my husband picked a selection of drawing equipments to fill the bag. Well, that’s our idea of fun. Anyway, the pattern is based loosely on a tutorial found in a Japanese pattern book, but I make it wider, add more pockets, straps, and other details. The fabric is striped cotton/linen, green stripes for the outside and red stripes for the inside. I quilted the whole […]

Lunch set etc

Sidra will start having lunch at school next week, so I finished his lunch set yesterday and made some other things as well. The hand towels are actually one piece of long towel that was bought in 100 yen store. I cut it in two and finished the raw edges, then I sewed a rectangle of fabric and linen ribbon on the corner. The lunch set is consisted of a lunch bag, pouch for cup, and lunch mat. I ran out of linen ribbon for the string, so I tea-dyed some white cotton ribbon to achieve similar result. The school […]

Collarless boy’s suit and bags for shogakko (elementary school)

Sidra is going to elementary school this month and there are tons of things to prepare. The school requires the student to have a lesson bag for their art and crafts stuffs, another bag for uwabaki (slippers to use at school), and yet another type of bag for lunch set. I’ve been planning to make all of them myself and also a suit for Sidra to wear at the opening ceremony. The fabrics had been bought since a month ago, but as usual when faced with a deadline, I usually got lazy and keep postponing things until the last minute. […]

Lesson bag and PET bottle case

I made this lesson bag and PET bottle case for Sidra to take to his class excursion. Actually I should’ve made them earlier when he started his school year. He won’t be using them in shogakko (elementary school) next month because I’ve prepared other fabrics to make various bags for his school needs. So I count these as a practice to make the next bags. The fabrics are leftovers from previous projects. The denim has been used for this pants , this dress and this apron set , and the striped fabric has been used for this bag and this apron […]

Apron and bandanna set

Before leaving kindergarten and entering entering elementary school next April, Sidra and his classmates will cook lunch for the whole school next week. For this occasion, the kids have to wear apron and bandanna which have to be submitted to school by tomorrow. I didn’t have the chance to buy fabrics because I still got the flu, so I pulled out some leftover from past projects and made this set. The fabric is dark denim (leftover from this dress) and some linen/cotton with red stripes on it (leftover from this bag). Instead of using ties, the apron bands are attached […]

Reversible Charlie Bag

Feel like haven’t sewn anything for ages. This Charlie bag pattern is pretty popular in Burdastyle, and I finally join the crowd and make myself one. My Charlie is reversible, white fabric with red stripes on one side and black linen with red Matryoshka dolls pattern on the other side. I make it without any pockets or anything, so it was finished pretty fast, about half an hour or so. The size is perfect for me, as I love big bags. It’s pretty roomy for all my stuffs but doesn’t look too enormous either. Now I understand why this pattern […]
