Craftsy Pant Fitting Techniques by Sandra Betzina

Pants. Why is it so hard to find the perfect fit? I get how to fit a dress, skirt or even bra, but it seems that I just don’t get pants. Luckily for me, recently I was asked to review a Craftsy online class: Pant Fitting Techniques. I love Craftsy’s sewing classes so this is perfect for me! The class is about 4 hours, divided into nine chapters, and taught by Power Sewing host Sandra Betzina. It includes Vogue 2948, a pattern for classic trouser with princess seams in sizes A-J, that will be shipped directly by Vogue. If you live […]

Red silk dress (Simplicity 2281) and a haircut!

A new dress! This one was made with Jewel of Brooklyn Dress kit from Kollabora, that consisted of Simplicity 2281, a Cynthia Rowley Collection pattern, and 2 m of 100% silk Solid Crepe de Chine from Mood Fabrics. Since I didn’t really want the dress in two colors like the Kollabora version, I asked for the color Tango Red, Tara from Kollabora was really helpful to accommodate my request. Simplicity 2281 is a sweet dress with gathered neckline, hidden pockets and gathered tulip skirt. I made view A in size 6 on bust and hip, size 8 on waist. Other than […]

‘Cause This is Thriller!

Here’s Sidra’s Thriller jacket! Although it is not supposed to be a costume, I think it is appropriate to post it on Halloween. As I’ve posted before, I made this jacket on Sidra’s request for his fall jacket. He wanted either a Thriller or Beat It jacket. The number of zippers on Beat It jacket looks overwhelming so I went with the Thriller one. The jacket is based on Nectarine jacket pattern from Tamanegi Kobo, a Japanese pattern shop. I changed the closure to zipper and then drafted the three flaps for the buttons. The original Thriller jacket doesn’t seem to […]

Blue and white lace set (Danglez DB5)

Recently I just came to a conclusion that my bra size is not quite right (!!!). You might ask how I didn’t realize that sooner? I think that a part of it was caused by years of never finding the right size so I never knew how the right bra size are supposed to feel. Another part of it was because I haven’t find the right way to find my correct bra size. I will post about this in the future. To cut it short, I found out that my bra size is not 30C as I’ve believed before but a […]

Green Pastille dress (The Colette Sewing Handbook)

A pretty dress was hanging on the wall of my clean room, as if it was magically appeared out of thin air. There were no traces at all that not a few hours before, the dress was a nightmare and the room was a complete mess. Surely I have to thank the magical power of a vacuum cleaner. The pattern is Pastille dress from The Colette Sewing Handbook, the one on the cover. I’ve loved the pattern since the first time I saw it, but kept postponing to make it because apparently I’m too small for Colette patterns. Doing a […]

Chevron jersey dress (Vogue 8728)

On to my next dress! The fabric came from the same store as the orange dress, but it is a much more casual jersey with chevron pattern. There was two choices, I had a hard time choosing between the grey lines and this lilac and light blue chevron, but finally settled with this one. I think I’ve made the right choice! The pattern is Vogue 8728 from Vogue Vintage Model line, a reissue of “The Greta Eberhardt Collection” pattern circa 1946. What is great about this pattern is that it can be made in both knit or woven fabric. From […]

Orange dress (Vogue 8313)

Looking at the number of sewing that I’d done in the past couple of month, apparently sewing and summer is not a nice combination for me. Fortunately the weather is getting cooler now and my sewing mojo slowly crawled back. I found this pretty eyelet orange fabric in my favorite local fabric shop who sells out of print fabric, and it was turned rightaway into a dress that night. The pattern is out of print Vogue 8313, marked as ‘very easy’. I bought it for $1.99 on a sale in Vogue Patterns site. From the pattern envelope: “Misses’ Petite […]

Black Lingerie set

I’ve been making lingerie for sometime now, and my drawer is happily filled with pink, blue, peach, red, polka dot and floral ones when I realized that I didn’t have a black one. You know, an ordinary black lace set, which every woman should have. It happened that I have all the fabrics and notions for this particular set, so off I went to the sewing table (which is also our dining table). For the pattern, I used Merckwaerdigh Mix30. From the pattern envelope: ‘Pattern MIX30 from Dutch design Merckwaerdigh with a good supporting underwired bra, lovely hipster pantie & all […]

nani IRO lingerie set

Unfortunately, no progress at all on my dresses sewing projects. I got sick for a week and then summer came in full force, melting my sewing mojo with the heat. So I’ve been spending the last few days lounging around in front of the fan. How do you get your sewing mojo back after a period of stagnation? Anyway, I desperately want to sew something yesterday but cutting a dress seemed too much of work to do. In times like this, I always turn to sewing lingerie. It’s small, quick, with almost always cute result. Perfect for curing my sewing […]
