Red Kochi kimono

Hello and happy new year! It’s winter and I’m surrounded by the darks and greys that people are wearing. I thought something bright would make me feel better as I’m still not used to the cold winter, despite having been living here for several years. Wool coat

First of all, I want to say thank you for all the sweet wishes on my birthday post! I feel so happy! You might have seen this coat in that particular post. Boy’s cape

When Sidra was still in kindergarten, I made him  a cute wool cape with faux fur lining for winter. He was very happy wearing it and enjoyed running around pretending he was a super-something. As years went by, he has outgrown the cape and it found a new owner (that might have outgrown the cape by now). Although the cape has long gone, Sidra often talks about it fondly and has been asking me to make him another. Pattern testing: Robson coat

Pistachio green coat (Burdastyle Sewing Handbook)

  I’ve always wanted to try making a coat for myself but somewhat scared of it. When I found out that there is a coat pattern in The Burdastyle Sewing Handbook, I knew that it was time to face my fear! I went to Yuzawaya and got myself some pistachio green tweed wool and lining fabric in stripes pattern. The pattern in this book has no seam allowances and needed to be traced. Grey jacket

Another pattern from Pattern Drafting vol. II, this is from page 134 and it is called The Onepiece-Coat Ensemble (it is spelled that way!). I only made the coat and made several changes to it. It was shortened into a jacket since I only had one meter of the fabric, and three buttons are used instead of one. As my autumn dress, I didn’t draft the pattern, but cheated by scanning the page and enlarging it by 1000%. Winter cape

The school requires that the children should wear school smock to school and any jacket or coat should be taken off before entering the schoolbus. That is why I decided to make a cape for Sidra because it can be easily taken off once the bus is coming. Sidra has specifically requested something with green fur for his coat, so I bought half a metre of this green fur to use as a lining for the black wool.
