Birthday pants

Yesterday was my husband’s 41st birthday! We made a little celebration in the morning, blowing candles and eating ice cream cake. Sidra gave my husband a handmade card with his own drawing on it and a little gift.   After they left for work and school, I sewed a pair of pants for my husband’s present. Once again I use Men’s Jeans pattern from Pumila that I have made three times before. I wanted a more formal look this time so I didn’t use denim. The fabric is grey wool blend and I think it will be perfect for fall/winter. The wrong […]

Wrap dress (vintage Simplicity 7705)

I always love the idea of wearing a wrap dress. It is so easy, no zipper and buttons, yet the whole look is so feminine. I looked around at ebay and got myself surprised at the price of the original vintage Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress patterns, especially Vogue 1548 and 1549. Apparently they are very popular, hence the prices go up to the sky. I always thought that USD30 for a vintage 1970s pattern is way too much, but apparently some people are willing to pay more than USD 100 for an original DVF wrap dress pattern! There is […]

Cotton knit lingerie set

Another new set of bra and panties that I made yesterday. Nothing really special, no frills nor lace as I wanted something simple this time. The fabric is cotton knit by Liberty of London. I need about half yard to make the whole set. The bra pattern is Pin-up Girls Classic Bra #1230, size 30C. This is a classic full band bra that can be made with or without underwires. I made mine with underwires for better support. I used to think that I don’t like underwired bra because I’ve never felt comfortable in underwired store-bought bras. It turned out that […]

Two Pendrells and One Kasia

Lately I’ve been expanding my wardrobe with more skirts and tops. I have lots of dresses already, and I feel that I need to introduce something different to my wardrobe. My style always changes subtly from time to time, otherwise I will get bored of myself! I bought Pendrell blouse pattern by Tasia from Sewaholic sometime ago but only had the chance to try it now. I must say that I love it. So much that I made two in one day! The instructions are very clear and I only need a couple hours to make one blouse, from tracing […]

Corduroy skirt

I still have leftover corduroy fabric from Sidra’s Henry shirt, which is just enough for a little skirt for myself. Although it looks purple in the pictures, the fabric actually has more blue in real life.  The pattern is 10/2010 Wool Skirt #115A by Burdastyle. The smallest size is still too big for me, so I shrunk the pattern to 92% and used size 38. I added a dark blue lining and shortened the hem considerably. It is long weekend right now in Japan, and yesterday we went to Yokohama to spend the day at Aqua museum in Sea Paradise. Hope you […]

Button-up skirt

A quick project that I did yesterday. The fabric is called ‘lurik’, a traditional handloom from Central Java, Indonesia, that I bought in our this picture. The one I have is a a modern interpretation with very subtle darker stripes. The fabric was sold already cut in 3 m package, but the width is only 90 cm. Since they were quite cheap, I bought them in several colors, green, purple, red, and black with stripes.     The pattern is Helena skirt, a free PDF pattern download found in Burdastyle. I was prepared to add seamline on the center back […]

Indigo blue corduroy shirt

I bought the corduroy fabric with the thought of making a pair of pants for Sidra. But when I showed the fabric to him, Sidra said that he wanted a shirt from this fabric. His reason? He said, “Everyone would say that this fabric is better as a pair of pants, so I want to be different and use it as a shirt.” You can’t argue with that, can you? So a shirt it is. In fact, it was a good opportunity to try my hand on one of the pattern from the Sewing for Boys book that I talked about in my […]

Baby blue bodysuit

I sewed something today! No, not a dress, but a lingerie bodysuit. I was always curious with this type of lingerie, but couldn’t bring myself to buy something so expensive that I wouldn’t wear often. The pattern is Merckwaerdigh PBH30 that I won sometime ago at Merckwaerdigh ebay auction. The pattern is for push-up underwired bra, bustier, bodysuit, and thong bodysuit. The fabric and notions are also from Merckwaerdigh, but the tiny bow and the hook and eye set is from Yuzawaya. I should have used white hook and eye set, but that was I had in hand at the moment. Although I usually […]
