It is getting colder here in Tokyo that I can’t think of sewing anything else but sweater! So I’m very happy to see that the newest pattern from Grainline studio is a sweatshirt pattern. You must have seen several versions of this Linden sweatshirt popping up around the sewing blogs. I can see why so many people are attracted to it. It is a basic and quite straightforward pattern for a sweatshirt with raglan sleeves and scooped neckline. I made the black one first. The fabric is very interesting double-faced knit, black on the outside and white on the inside. It is hard to capture […]
Wool coat
First of all, I want to say thank you for all the sweet wishes on my birthday post! I feel so happy! You might have seen this coat in that particular post. I have just finished it a day before my birthday. It has been a while since I made a winter coat, the previous one was this Pistachio coat that I made two years ago using coat pattern from the Burdastyle Sewing Handbook. I love that coat and have been wearing it a lot but it is a bit fitted so I can’t wear thick sweater or too much layers underneath. Recently I’ve been […]
Men’s cargo pants: Failed!
I had been spending several days making a pair of cargo pants for my husband. I cut the fabric and happily went sewing all those pockets and flaps. And when he tried them on, the waist is too small! Of course there is noone to blame but myself for not making muslin first or even fit them before everything was too late. But I would like to partly blame my husband for this mishap. The pattern is from Full of Patterns, a Japanese pattern store where I bought the pattern for my husband’s selvedge jeans. I used size L for the jeans […]
Military jacket
I was just heading out of the fabric store in Shinjuku after finished shopping when a woman entered. Suddenly my attention got caught on the military jacket that she wore. I was never too interested in military jackets before. It seems like everyone is wearing them, at least here in Tokyo. So I was curious on why this woman’s jacket was interesting to me. I followed her for a while, stealing glances at the details of her jacket. She walked around the first floor, then went up to the second floor, and then the third floor. After we reached the fourth floor, I decided that I have got enough […]
Wyome boyfriend jeans – Named patterns
More jeans! After finished making my husband’s jeans, I felt a weird craving to make more jeans. I even had a dream where I made a super neat topstitching on the waistband, probably because I thought about them a lot. I guess I really love making jeans. At this point there are two things that I can do. One is to decide that I have got too obsessed and should be looking for something else to do, and the other one is to just surrender and make another pair of jeans. Actually I’ve chosen option no. 1, until last weekend when I went to […]
Repairing jeans pockets
I just learned a lesson to always use good pocket lining materials for jeans. When I made these pair of jeans for my husband in 2011, I used quilting cotton for the pocket lining because I liked the print. They didn’t last the abuse that my husband put them through and torn apart after a year. I guess I forgot that men do use their pockets! Unlike me who occasionally put a coin in my coin pocket and put everthing else in my bag. Before fixing the pockets, I have offered to make him another pair of jeans (wohoo because I love […]

How to buy from Full of Patterns website
Hello! Several people have expressed interest in Full of Patterns, so I asked them if it is possible for people living outside Japan to purchase the PDF patterns. They replied immediately and sent these step-by-step screen captions with English explanations (in red) on how to order. It might be a bit of a hassle, but their patterns are good so it is worth to try. I have made several patterns from them that you can see here. Full of Patterns sells patterns in paper and PDF version but you can only purchase the PDF patterns from outside Japan. They seem to focus more […]
Selvedge men’s jeans – Full of Patterns 07
Sometime ago I posted that I wanted to make a pair of selvedge jeans for my husband and have started making the muslin. It turned out that ‘sometime ago’ meant 8 months ago! Yikes. The good news is, the jeans are finally finished now! And actually it only took me two days to make them, just in time for my husband’s 44th birthday! The pattern is Men’s jeans FOP-07 by Full of Patterns, a Japanese pattern shop. The site is completely in Japanese but it wasn’t a big problem as I always use Google translate extension on Chrome to browse and even order things […]
Oversized cardigan
Time for some fall sewing! You might recognize the fabric as one of the Merino wool that I got in the Anima pant competition. This is part of the knit pack prize from Papercut and the Fabric Store, a beautiful Merino wool jacquard in raspberry color. Recently this blog was voted as one of the Top 50 Best Bloggers for Sewing Enthusiasts, and I got to choose five Burda patterns. How lucky! The cardigan pattern is one of the five, it is Burda Oversized Cardigan 07/2013 #109A. I don’t use Burda patterns very often so I’m quite happy to have this opportunity to try more of their […]
