Unfortunately, no progress at all on my dresses sewing projects. I got sick for a week and then summer came in full force, melting my sewing mojo with the heat. So I’ve been spending the last few days lounging around in front of the fan. How do you get your sewing mojo back after a period of stagnation?
Anyway, I desperately want to sew something yesterday but cutting a dress seemed too much of work to do. In times like this, I always turn to sewing lingerie. It’s small, quick, with almost always cute result. Perfect for curing my sewing fatigue!
The fabric is double-gauze knit by nani IRO. Some of you might remember the fabric from this racerback dress that I made back in 2009. This is one of those things that is cute but somehow has never been worn often. In fact I think I’ve worn it about twice after I made it. So I cut the dress and made a lingerie set out of it.
The bra pattern is my usual Pin-up Girls Classic Bra #1230, size 30C. Since the knit fabric has lots of stretch, I lined the bridge and lower cup with powernet in nude color.
Kwik Sew 2075
The panties pattern is Kwik Sew 2075, out of print pattern bought in a recent sale in Kwik Sew site. I made view D, panty with high-cut legs in size S.
The dress was just enough for one bra and two panties set and I’m really happy with the results. The fabric is very soft and comfortable against the skin and of course the dots pattern is so cute!

Spring flowers set
Instead of packing like what I was supposed to do, I made a new set of bra and panties yesterday.
I was packing in the sewing room when my eyes rested upon this wonderful lycra fabric in my stash. The flowers pattern looks like a blooming garden in spring, and suddenly I felt that I need to make something with it right that very moment! Actually sewing calmed down my nerves, so it was my way of refreshing between packing.
The fabric was bought sometime ago in Okadaya, Shinjuku. The elastic and notions are from Merckwaerdigh at ebay. The bra pattern is my usual one, Pin-up Girls Classic Bra #1230, size 30C, a classic full band bra that can be made with or without underwires. I made mine with underwires.
The panties are high-waisted, made with PDF pattern, The Betty High Waist Panties from Ohhh Lulu. This is the first time I used this pattern, it came to my attention after reading this post by Madalynne. The pattern is for classic, princess-seam high waist knickers, it is designed for knits, but can accommodate stretch-wovens, or loose-weaves cut on the bias.
I used serger to sew princess seams on the panties, then finished the elastic with sewing machine. I made size S but next time I will go with XS for a better fit. The instructions were very clear and straight-forward. I really had a good time making the panties, too bad my fabric is only enough for one pair.
The thing about high-waist panties is they look rather strange on hanger, maybe not as cute as the ordinary cheeky panties. But they are actually very flattering on the body. Worn together with the bra, they look like a retro swimwear set!

Peach and grey lingerie set
Making bra and panties is a sort of instant gratification for me. They only need little fabrics and don’t need much space for cutting the pattern. And with each lingerie project that I’ve finished, I gained more knowledge on what way is the best for attaching things.
This new set was made with bra and lingerie notions set from Merckwaerdigh. The set has peach lycra fabric with textured swirl pattern, stretch lace in peach and grey, and grey elastics. I especially love the pretty shoulder straps!
The bra pattern is Pin-up Girls Classic Bra #1230, a classic full band bra that can be made with or without underwires. I made mine size 30C with underwires. The panties pattern is Merckwaerdigh Mix25, a new addition in my pattern collection. The panties has lace addition on each front leg.
They would be my last sewing project this year. We’re going out of town for a short getaway next week. Can’t wait to see some snow! Wishing you all a happy holiday!

Pin-up Girls Classic Bra #1230 and Merckwaerdigh Mix30
Another new set of bra and panties that I made yesterday. Nothing really special, no frills nor lace as I wanted something simple this time. The fabric is cotton knit by Liberty of London. I need about half yard to make the whole set.
The bra pattern is Pin-up Girls Classic Bra #1230, size 30C. This is a classic full band bra that can be made with or without underwires. I made mine with underwires for better support.
I used to think that I don’t like underwired bra because I’ve never felt comfortable in underwired store-bought bras. It turned out that they are not comfortable because the fit was not right. I never found my size and always bought bra in size 32A or 32B. But since I started to make my own bra, I found out that underwired bras (in the right size) are comfortable!
The panties pattern is based on Merckwaerdigh Mix30 that I’ve used so often. The original pattern has lace inset, I removed it to make a very simple pattern with only two pieces.
I really love how simple they look!

I always get nervous before going on a trip, and sewing is a way to calm myself. It is sort of like meditation to me because I have to put other thoughts aside and concentrate on this particular task. Of course I should be packing instead of sewing, but…. *sigh*
Black and white set
Anyway, this is what I came up with last night, a lingerie set of one bra and two panties in black and white. The pattern is Merckwaerdigh Mix30 for both the bra and panties. This is a multisize pattern with the description as follows: Pattern MIX30 from Dutch design Merckwaerdigh with a good supporting underwired bra, lovely hipster pantie & all lace knickers. This pattern does requires some experience in home made lingerie.
I have used the panties pattern for my previous sets but this time I wanted to try the bra pattern as well. Before making this set, I made a muslin with leftover jersey for the cup only to test the fit. It turned out that my size for Merckwaerdigh pattern is 30C instead of 30B that I usually wear.
The pattern instruction is not as good as the Pin-Up Girls pattern that I usually use, but since I’ve made several bras before, I didn’t find any particular difficulties with this one.
The fit is great and they are really comfortable! I love how the shape of the side cup gives good support. When attaching the elastic on the underbust band, I cut my elastic 20% shorter than the whole band to make sure that they fit snugly around my body.
The white lycra and tiny bows with red flowers were bought in Okadaya, Shinjuku. The black stretch lace and bra notions kit are from Merckwaerdigh store at ebay.
