Snow day

We don’t usually have too much snow here in Tokyo, but today I woke up to 20 cm thick of snow on the doorstep! It is quite strange, I’m already feeling ready for spring and suddenly it is in the middle of winter again?! Anyway, everything looks beautiful covered in thick snow. Also, a sneak peek of my recent finished project. I think it is perfect for spring! pictures from my Instagram  //credits: Tape strips by Puglypixel.

The Starlet Suit Jacket. Enrolled!

More Craftsy classes! I know I haven’t even continued on my bombshell dress, and the dress pattern for the Couture Dress has just arrived yesterday, but when I read the latest Craftsy newsletter about their newest sewing class, I just couldn’t resist! It is The Starlet Suit Jacket, another Sew Retro series by the awesome Gertie Hirsch from New Blog for Better Sewing. Since I’ve subscribed to Craftsy newsletter, the class was at 50% off, only $39.99 instead of $79.99. I would say that it is a great bargain! The pattern for the suit is designed by Gertie herself and is […]

Side pleat dress (Butterick 5672)

I found this pretty double-knit wool while I was supposed to buy something else in Okadaya. It happens a lot, doesn’t it? Anyway, I bought a meter of it without knowing what to made of the fabric. I browsed through my pattern stash and found this Butterick 5672. From the pattern envelope: “Close fitting, lined dress has left side invisible zipper, left dart and left pleats from drape effect.” Looks perfect! The instructions are very clear-written. The pattern itself is simple with only four outer pieces. In my initial sketch of this dress on my croquis, I drew the dress with sleeves. But after […]

Four years

This is a drawing that Sidra made of our wedding four years ago. Sidra was still five years old at that time. Has it ben really four years already? The lines radiating from my body were his interpretation of my flowy chiffon dress. There is a flower on my husband’s jacket. The thing on Sidra’s head is not a hat though, it is his own hair. And aren’t those teeth wonderful? Everybody is looking happy in the drawing, just like how we were feeling that day. And just like we are still feeling today. Sometimes I still wonder how it is possible to […]

Stick bag

After finished his swimming school, we promised Sidra that he could start learning martial art, something that he had been asking for sometime. He didn’t want karate though, fortunately there is an Aikido club at the community centre. Sidra has attended several classes and really loved it there. The teachers are several old men, they are such fun teachers and the kids love them. Aikido requires little physical strength, as it basically uses the force of the attacker and redirects it, it is good for self-defense. Because of this nature, Aikido doesn’t use weapon. Anyway, one of the teacher also […]
