Pencil pouch

My husband is a member of an internet community and they often arrange some exchange events. The recent one was a craft exchange, and my husband asked me to work together making something. Our match is a game lover, so my husband drew the mascot of the community, with portal gun on its hand, jumping into/out of a portal. Portal is a video game.

I scanned the drawing and create a tiling pattern with a drawing program, then printed them to an A4 size fabric specifically designed for inkjet printing. The fabric is then washed, pressed, and then cut to make this pencil pouch. The pouch is padded with thin quilt batting and fully lined with linen.

I’ve used similar fabric to make this brooch sometime ago, and also to make labels for Sidra’s school necessities. It’s pretty neat, you just make a design with a computer and print them on the fabric just like on paper. The drawback is of course the size, but I think it is a good way to make something in small scale such as this pencil pouch.

We sent the pouch yesterday along with a small card with the same drawing on it. Hope the recipient will like it!

  1. Love the print. I have been meaning to start designing my own fabrics – have you heard of an online company called spoonflower? They print your custom designed fabric on demand.

    1. Glad that you like it! I love working with my husband, maybe we should do this more offten :)

  2. You two are so clever! I love the idea of making my own fabric designs! I’d sure like to know what the product is that makes ink jet print washable; I’d buy some and treat my own fabrics. Your pouch is just adorable, Novita, and I know the recipient will love it!

  3. Ha, cute! I showed my Husband — without reading him your post — and he said “Yeah, that’s the Reddit alien in Portal!” I guess they’re part of the same community :-)

    1. He knows rightaway! I told my husband and he’s happy because someone instantly recognized the alien :D
