Hawaiian shirt and denim pants

Actually it’s been more than a week ago since I got back from summer vacation in Indonesia. In ten days, the three of us went from Tokyo to Jakarta, then to Bandung, and Jogjakarta. Yes, the families are scattered around several cities. In Jogjakarta, the big family from my mother’s side went to our family cemetery to visit my father’s grave and put some petals of roses on the tombs. There lies my father, grandparents, great grandparents, great great grandparents and so on. It was the first time for Sidra to visit the family cemetery (or any cemetery), so there […]

Dropped crotch sunsuit #2

After wearing my elephant print romper in several occasions, I grew to like it very much. So I decided to make another one for my shop. As nehmah from burdastyle have suggested, I call this ‘sunsuit’ instead of ‘romper’. Sunsuit sounds adorable! This time I’m using Sevenberry cotton fabric with ochre bird and leaves print on it. I make the straps detachable for easier wear, and then I found out that this means that this sunsuit can also be worn as pants! I’m actually very nervous about making clothes for other people. When I make clothes for myself, or my […]

Dropped crotch romper

Being more of a dress person, I’ve never thought much about this romper trend before. But maybe they kinda grew on me since I saw them around the net so much. So when I found this cotton fabric with black and white elephant print on it, I decided to give a take on romper. The pattern is very simple, I only lengthened the top of a dropped-crotch pants until it reached my chest. Then I created rows of elastic shirrings on the bodice part to create a tight fit. Since my elastic strings are a bit thick, I enclosed them […]

Checks pants

A friend took me to a local department store that I’ve never visited, with a little corner for fabric and sewing goods, and I found this fabric cut in 70 cm for only ¥200! Just enough for another pants for Sidra. The pattern is the same as this pants, with some added length. To add some interests, I use polka dot fabric for facings on waistline, pockets, and hems. It was a very easy and quick project and I’m quite satisfied with the result! Pattern is from R&D.M.Co-boys&girls.

The week when my internet went down

Our modem had a problem last week, and since it was provided by our apartment developer, my husband called them to ask for a new one. I couldn’t believe when they said it would take almost a week to send a new modem! What would I do without internet for a week? Erm, okay, I had to calm down. So I went to the sewing room. 1. Family boxers I always wanted to sew boxers for my husband, and finally found the perfect pattern for it in a Japanese pattern book that I borrowed from a local library. It went […]

Linen jacket and pants

It’s getting warmer now and Sidra doesn’t need to wear thick jacket anymore. But I think he still needs a thin jacket because sometimes it’s quite windy around here. The fabrics are bought from a nearby store, they are linen, pre-cut to 50 cm. I need two pieces for the jacket, and one for the pants, with almost no leftover (love this!). The jacket uses the same pattern as this navy jacket , but I didn’t put any lining for this one; at the end, they look entirely different. What a big difference some linings make! The pants have no […]

Collarless boy’s suit and bags for shogakko (elementary school)

Sidra is going to elementary school this month and there are tons of things to prepare. The school requires the student to have a lesson bag for their art and crafts stuffs, another bag for uwabaki (slippers to use at school), and yet another type of bag for lunch set. I’ve been planning to make all of them myself and also a suit for Sidra to wear at the opening ceremony. The fabrics had been bought since a month ago, but as usual when faced with a deadline, I usually got lazy and keep postponing things until the last minute. […]

Boy’s trousers

Today is totally spring! I can turn off the heater and even leave the window open! It’s a perfect time for sewing, and I really miss working in the sewing room with window open. Sitting behind my sewing machine, with a cup of macha latte on the side, and sometimes looking at the green hills that lie afar is absolutely my idea of having a good time. There’s some leftover wool fabric from Sidra’s winter cape, so I use it to make this pants for Sidra. The pattern is the same as the pants from Sidra’s sailor suit. The pants […]

Navy suit and white shirt

Sidra needed a navy knee-length pants and a white shirt for the school concert, so I thought I’d just made them myself instead of buying some. The shirt fabric is white cotton with some interesting thin pintucks on it. The pants fabric is navy thick cotton, and I also made a matching jacket to the pants. For added warmth, I lined the jacket with blue flannel that I cut out of an Ikea blanket. I made the pattern for the pants myself by tracing one of Sidra’s pants, and then adding pocket details and turned-up hem. The shirt pattern is […]

Denim pants

Another pants for my son. I use denim with a bit of stretch in it, and scraps of corduroy from my husband’s jacket for the waistband and pockets. The pattern is the same as all his previous pants, but the legs are slimmed down this time.
