My last project for KCWC 2011! These pictures were taken today, but actually I’ve finished the pants a couple of days ago. It is again a recycle project, a pair of pants made with my husband’s old and ripped pants. My husband has several pants that were ripped in the most unfortunate places hence he can’t wear them again. Which remind me that I need to finish my husband’s jeans quicker! Anyway, the pattern for these pants is the same as Sidra’s jeans that I drafted sometime ago. I lowered the crotch slightly, widen the leg and cropped the length […]

KCWC: Broken striped T-shirt
Found a T-shirt in a thrift shop with similar pattern as my broken striped top but in black stripes. I refashioned into a T-shirt for Sidra. The original top is not very big, so I use black jersey from other T-shirt for the sleeves. The pattern is PDF pattern called Biscuit from Tamanegi Kobo, a Japanese pattern shop. It is quite an interesting pattern because the front looks like ordinary T-shirt while from the back it looks like a raglan sleeves T-shirt. Pattern is Biscuit from Tamanegi Kobo.
KCWC 2011: Red jacket and silver T-shirt
More KCWC 2011 projects! This red jacket is made with parachute fabric and black jersey. I found the parachute in the tiny fabric store near my house, it was very cheap and I still got more than 1 m left. The black jersey is recycled from adult T-shirt. The pattern is called Nectarine, bought as PDF pattern from Tamanegi Kobo, an online Japanese pattern store. The original pattern has button closure, but I changed it to zipper closure. Sewing it was so difficult! The pattern is actually wonderful and the instruction diagrams are very clear, but I have never sewn parachute before […]
KCWC 2011: Boy’s undies from recycled T-shirts
It’s kids clothes week spring 2011! I’m starting it by refashioning Sidra’s T-shirts into undies. Those shirts are still in good condition but all of them have become too small now. It is something that you always encounter when you have kids. I copied one of Sidra’s undies to make the base pattern. Then I made a pair of test undies from old T-shirt so Sidra can tell me what he wanted to change. Yes, I made a muslin for recycled undies…. He wanted his undies to be a bit longer and not too tight around the bum, so I […]
Skull and cross pants
The fabric is black medium weight linen/cotton with white and silver skull and cross pattern and I’m not too crazy about it. The idea of silver and gold as fabric is too flashy for my taste. We were browsing around in Yuzawaya, a fabric store, when Sidra saw it and announced on the spot: “I want to wear this fabric.” I’ve tried to change his mind, what about a bag, an apron? “No, I don’t want it as a bag. No, not an apron. I want a pair of pants with this fabric. Yes, I am sure.” Uhhh, okay. I was planning […]
Pointed hood tutorial
These hoodies were inspired by a children book, みんなのこびと (cub label) (Minna no Kobito) by Toshitaka Nabata, or loosely translated as ‘Everyone’s Kobito’. I made them for the Once Upon a Thread event at No Big Dill. Check out my story and pictures over there! The fabric is cotton knit, very soft and comfortable. The hoodies will be good addition for Sidra’s wardrobe in spring. The body of the T-shirt and pants are made with commercial pattern. Disclaimer: For personal use only. Please do not pass off the pattern and tutorial as your own. Thank you! Click to download POINTED […]
Nature walk knit pants
This is my first oliver + s pattern that I’ve been wanting to try for sometime. This pair of pants is a part of Nature Walk pullover + knit pants, I only made the knit pants. The pattern is in size 5-12 years, very well presented with easy and clear instructions. The placement of the elastic inside the waist yoke is very clever! It allows for a hip yoke appearance but the elastic keeps the pants in place. The pants have no side seams, so it was finished very quickly. I sewed it using zigzag stitches on my Janome sewing […]
Recycled pants
My husband has a couple of pants and jeans who are no longer wearable due to some rips on obvious places. After being worn and washed so many times, the fabric has became soft and comfortable to the touch, unlike stiff brand new denim. I thought they would make good pants for Sidra, after all with his rapid growth, he’s always in continuous need of new pants. I turned to my precious Pattern Drafting vol. II to find a pants pattern. This 1970 book has a small section on kidswear on the back. I drafted a basic straight pants pattern and then […]
Yellow corduroy vest and pants
I’ve seen so many wonderful projects made with vintage patterns on the net, and finally I had my first one to try! The pattern was bought via etsy, it’s a 1972 McCalls pattern for high-neck shirt, vest, and pants. I made the vest and pants for Sidra. The fabric is yellow corduroy and the lining is dark purple polyester fabric. It turned out that I didn’t really like the lining fabric, it moved a lot and doesn’t stay in shape. Next time I will be using cotton or silk for the lining. I didn’t make many changes to the pattern, […]
More tees!
I’m not feeling well lately, headache, coughs, runny nose, etc. I guess the transitional period between summer to autumn is not doing good to my body. To make myself feel better, I sew several things for Sidra. I made these two shirts yesterday. The beige one is using leftover fabric from my own shirt. I bought it in a thrift shop sometime ago for colder weather, but then rarely wear it. I reuse the green button tab and cuffs from the original shirt. Today Sidra had a haircut! It was his first professional haircut done in Japan. Actually it was in […]
