KCWC 2011: Red jacket and silver T-shirt

More KCWC 2011 projects! This red jacket is made with parachute fabric and black jersey. I found the parachute in the tiny fabric store near my house, it was very cheap and I still got more than 1 m left. The black jersey is recycled from adult T-shirt. The pattern is called Nectarine, bought as PDF pattern from Tamanegi Kobo, an online Japanese pattern store. The original pattern has button closure, but I changed it to zipper closure. Sewing it was so difficult! The pattern is actually wonderful and the instruction diagrams are very clear, but I have never sewn parachute before […]

Pointed hood tutorial

These hoodies were inspired by a children book, みんなのこびと (cub label) (Minna no Kobito) by Toshitaka Nabata, or loosely translated as ‘Everyone’s Kobito’. I made them for the Once Upon a Thread event at No Big Dill. Check out my story and pictures over there! The fabric is cotton knit, very soft and comfortable. The hoodies will be good addition for Sidra’s wardrobe in spring. The body of the T-shirt and pants are made with commercial pattern. Disclaimer: For personal use only. Please do not pass off the pattern and tutorial as your own. Thank you! Click to download POINTED […]

More tees!

I’m not feeling well lately, headache, coughs, runny nose, etc. I guess the transitional period between summer to autumn is not doing good to my body. To make myself feel better, I sew several things for Sidra. I made these two shirts yesterday. The beige one is using leftover fabric from my own shirt. I bought it in a thrift shop sometime ago for colder weather, but then rarely wear it. I reuse the green button tab and cuffs from the original shirt. Today Sidra had a haircut! It was his first professional haircut done in Japan. Actually it was in […]

Recycled check T-shirt

Still no dino plushies. It was raining the whole day yesterday so I stayed at home and made something else for Sidra. The T-shirt is recycled from my old T-shirt dress, bought in 2006 in Indonesia. My hair was pretty short at the time! The picture was taken in my office’s studio, hence the black background (the advantage of working in a fashion magazine). Actually the dress was still in decent condition, but I’ve never worn it anymore. Sometimes I feel a bit guilty when I don’t wear something that I didn’t make myself. Is that strange? The material is […]

White and purple shirt

I was making a dinosaur plush toy yesterday and just one step away from finishing it, all I need was just some stuffing and a pair of black beads for the eyes. As I didn’t want to go too far to buy supplies, I headed to a thrift store nearby. I was planning to find some broken plush toys that I can cut open to use the stuffing and eyes. Apparently the plan just didn’t work out. It was not that there weren’t any ugly toys in the store, there were plenty of them. But as I looked at those […]

Striped T-shirt and tweed pants

A couple of days ago was a national holiday in Japan, but it was raining the whole day so we stayed at home and got kinda bored. I went to my sewing room, trying to find things to do, and found this piece of grey tweed fabric that I bought a long time ago. It was only 50 cm and I had forgotten why I bought it in the first place. I decided to turn it into a pair of pants for Sidra. It was a really simple pants, I use a pattern from R&D.M.Co-boys & girls that I have […]

I’d rather sew

I feel like I haven’t sewed anything for months, then I looked at my blog and found out that my last project was only a little more than 2 weeks ago. But it is sure felt like a long time because I’ve been feeling so uncreative these last few days, and I really don’t like feeling that way. To coax myself back into making things, I tried to make this little recycle project. This T-shirt was bought for ¥100 in a secondhand shop, I rather like the seventies feeling of it. But it was a bit too tight on me […]

His and his long-sleeved shirts

The fabric was bought in Nippori, in another fabric shopping trip with Yoshimi about 10 days ago. It’s a transparent knit fabric in beige colour, very soft and comfortable. I really like the fabric that I also bought another one in grey. I turned the fabric into these long-sleeved shirts for Sidra and my husband. The necklines are a bit wider than usual, and the neckline and bottom of the sleeves are finished in the similar way as my husband’s striped shirt (unfinished and zig-zag stitched).

Striped shirt

I’ve heard about Nippori textile town from sometime, but never got a chance to go there myself. It’s an area where the main street has about 100 fabric stores on each side. And last week, I finally had the opportunity to go there with three beautiful ladies who invited me to join them in a fabric shopping trip. They were so wonderful to show me around and told me which store to go for certain fabrics. As most names of the stores are in Japanese letter, they also marked the stores in the brochure map so I can find them […]
