Boy tee and dog hoodie

So I found this long sleeved t-shirt with rather ridiculous cowl neckline in the men’s section of a thrift shop. My first thought was: wow, look at all those fabric! The color is actually light grey with black printed pattern, it is rather thick jersey in good quality. I bought the item for about USD5. My favorite pattern for making Sidra’s long-sleeved T-shirt is Biscuit by Tamanegi-Kobo, a Japanese pattern store. The sleeves are very interesting, they look like regular sleeves from the front and raglan sleeves from the back. I’ve used this pattern several times here, here, and here. […]

Laurie tee

My second Named Clothing pattern! This one is called Laurie striped tee. Here’s the description from the website: “A classic T-shirt with wide horizontal pleats on front that create a striped effect. A loose-fitting and casual model with short sleeves. Choose and elastic tricot, preferably quite thin. A slightly translucent fabric will make the striped effect stand out.” I still don’t like that I have to print, tape, and still do the tracing, but this pattern is only three pieces. I just traced the front and cut the rest from the taped paper. The pattern is drafted for 172 cm, […]

Garnet tops (+ dog tees)

As you might know, my wardrobe is mostly consisted of dresses, which is something that I had wanted to fix since the beginning of the year. But there were always some pretty dress patterns that distracted my attention and I kept making more dresses. A couple of months ago I bought these pair of denim from Modcloth on a whim. Note to self: there are certain times each month when I have to avoid online shopping site. Anyway, it is a high-waisted skinnies in stretchy materials and was the most loved item in denim section so I clicked and bought […]

Summer knit dress (McCall’s 6700)

I’ve been busy this week since Monte came, house-training him and such, that I don’t have too much time for my sewing machine. But yesterday I really want to make something instead of wiping dog pee off the floor, so here’s a quick dress for an instant gratification. The pattern is McCall’s 6700 from the Spring 2013 line. From the pattern envelope: “Pullover dress has fitted, mock wrap bodice, shoulder ties, elasticized shoulders and raised (seamed) waist, fitted, narrow hem, thread carriers and self belt.” This dress is designed for medium weight stretch knits and I was happy to find […]

Velvet Tiramisu dress

After seeing so many pretty versions of this dress -check out this delicious purple number by lladybird-, I’m jumping into the Tiramisu dress bandwagon! If you haven’t heard about this pattern, this is the first pattern from Steph‘s new pattern line, Sewing Cake. From the description of Tiramisu Dress: “Knit knee-length dress with front surplice (mock wrap) neckline, short kimono sleeves and an easily customizable midriff section. The skirt features in-seam pockets and falls in the soft folds of a vintage half-circle skirt. The pattern includes optional stripes placement guide, cup sizing A-D and a bust alteration line.” It is […]

Striped bra set

Hello! I made a new set of bra and undies yesterday. This is actually a test bra and so far I’m quite satisfied with the result. As I’ve mentioned in my previous post about bra, I’ve been using A Sophisticated Pair’s bra calculator to help me find my correct bra size. With my 26.5 inches band measurement and 31.5 inches bust measurement, the calculator gave me the size US 28E for moderately snug band. This time I wanted a very snug band, which requires the size US 26F. The cups for 26F are actually the same as 28E and 30D. […]

Boy’s white hoodie (McCall’s 6158)

I also made several jersey pants for Sidra that he really loves to wear. Here is one of them in black. The pattern is based on one of the pattern from Japanese pattern book, シンプル&ちょこっとデザイン おんなの子服おとこの子服 that I’ve always used. I changed the pockets to slant pockets. And here is Sidra walking to school this morning. ‘I’m going to school now. Please stop taking pictures.’

Jeans (Butterick 5682) and Peplum top (Vogue 8815)

My first pair of jeans! Actually not the first pair that I made, as I’ve made jeans several times for my husband and Sidra, but this would be the first time for myself. I finished them more than a week ago and have been wearing them so much ever since. That definitely is a sign of a successful project. The fabric is dark denim and the pattern is Butterick 5682. From the pattern envelope: “At waist, fitted jeans (A,B,C,D) and semi fitted trouser (E), have contoured waistband and fly zipper. A: Slim leg, ankle length. B: Straight leg. C: Boot cut. […]

Chevron jersey dress (Vogue 8728)

On to my next dress! The fabric came from the same store as the orange dress, but it is a much more casual jersey with chevron pattern. There was two choices, I had a hard time choosing between the grey lines and this lilac and light blue chevron, but finally settled with this one. I think I’ve made the right choice! The pattern is Vogue 8728 from Vogue Vintage Model line, a reissue of “The Greta Eberhardt Collection” pattern circa 1946. What is great about this pattern is that it can be made in both knit or woven fabric. From […]
