Denim pants (Evan – Tamanegi kobo)

I had a metre of denim fabric in my stash -actually it was more like unshaved corduroy- that I planned to make a high-waisted skirt with. But recently I changed my mind and wanted to make a pair of pants with it. I don’t have too many pants in my wardrobe. Maybe one or two that I rarely wear and a couple of shorts. I realized that making a pair of pants with a good fit is not easy, so I always have lots of doubt when I was about to start. But practice will make perfect! I have […]

Recycled Cargo pants

Sidra seems to be in constant needs of new pants. Several pants got short in what feels like overnight, the others got ripped and torn. Apparently it is rough out there playing with the boys. I told Sidra that I was going to make him a new pair of pants and asked if he had any special request. He immediately said that he wanted his pants in camouflage print. I’m not too crazy about camo print, but I guess eveybody has their own preference. Not wanting to shell some cash on a fresh batch of camo print fabric, I […]

Grey flared pants

A leftover project! The fabric is grey wool blend leftover from my husband’s pants. It was quite a lot so initially I cut them for my pants, but something went wrong and I ended up with two left legs (>_<). So I cut them again to make a pair of pants for Sidra. The pattern is from a Japanese pattern book, シンプル&ちょこっとデザイン おんなの子服おとこの子服. I’ve used this pattern before for Sidra’s corduroy pants, but this time I changed the shape of the legs, flaring them a bit. This is a similar alteration that I did on my husband’s pants. The pants has patch […]

Birthday pants

Yesterday was my husband’s 41st birthday! We made a little celebration in the morning, blowing candles and eating ice cream cake. Sidra gave my husband a handmade card with his own drawing on it and a little gift.

Red romper

I was planning to continue working on my bombshell dress when I got distracted by this newly released pattern from Tamanegi Kobo. It’s a jumpsuit pattern called Heliodor and Tamanegi Kobo is having 20% off sale for all patterns until the end of this month. I also happened to have the perfect fabric for this romper, very soft cotton voile from Fashionable Fabrics, which is another prize from my Spring Top. You see that I had no choice other than making this cute thing! The jumpsuit has sailor collar, elasticated waist with ties, side seam pockets and patch back pockets. As my fabric was […]

Lace shorts (and a haircut!)

Another pair of pants! Or to be exact, a pair of shorts. This time they are for me, made with lace fabric that I bought last summer in Swany, Kamakura. I can’t believe I’ve waited one full year to finally used this fabric! The shorts have very basic shape with a couple of darts on each side, no pockets, and an invisible zipper on the side. The pattern is from Blouse, Skirt & Pants Style Book ―パターンのバリエーションを楽しむ―. I used style #11: Tight straight pants as a base for my shorts. The lace trim on the hem is from Maya Road, another […]

Camel corduroy pants

Looks like I’m making pants all the time. Here’s a pair of corduroy pants for Sidra that I finished yesterday. The pattern is from a Japanese pattern book, シンプル&ちょこっとデザイン おんなの子服おとこの子服 and the fabric is Robert Kaufman cotton corduroy in Camel from Whipstitch fabrics, still from my Spring top winning . The pants have slim legs, patch pockets, and fully elasticized waist. My favorite part is this little triangle details on the back! The back pockets originally have flaps, but I forgot to cut them (-_-). I also added belt loops because Sidra uses them to attach his card wallet. He’s wearing them to school today. […]

Men’s Denim Pants

A new pair of pants for my husband that I finished last week. The pattern is Men’s Jeans from Pumila, a Japanese pattern shop, with the same alteration as his previous jeans. The fabric is 8 oz Indigo denim by Robert Kaufman from Whipstitch fabrics, one of my Spring Top prizes. Since the weight of the fabric is only 8 oz, the pants are quite thin. I forgot to take this into account and didn’t interface the waistband. As a result, the waist area got a little bigger after a while and is not as snug as before. I think I will take it apart and fix […]

Fuchsia top

Summer is really here! It’s getting hotter everyday so I made another sleeveless top for summer. There is nothing too special about it, the pattern is top R from Stylish Dress Book 3 that I also used for my previous top. The fabric is swiss dot cotton in fuchsia that I really love. It was actually a thrifted dress that I never worn because it kinda look weird on my body. I should have took some ‘before’ pictures of the dress but I cut it up last night so the lighting wasn’t good. It was a short dress so the fabric wasn’t […]

Summer shorts and top

I was thinking of making a pair of shorts for summer and decided to make my own pattern as an exercise in pattern drafting. The shorts have shaped waistband, pleated fronts, front slant pocket, and darts on the back side. I also made cuffed legs and used button fly instead of zipper. The fabric is linen chambray with interesting texture that I’ve used a little for the top part of this dress. The pockets are lined with striped linen, also leftover from the same dress. The result is still not too perfect. There were some (very) faint diagonal lines on the […]
