Long sleeve ruched dress

I really like the fabric that I used for my red dress that I also bought the same fabric in black and deep green. I used part of the black to make a pencil skirt, and this is the green one. The pattern is also from Burdastyle with my usual petite alteration. I really love the ruched detail on the side seam and the raglan sleeves. The original pattern also has ruched detail on the sleeves but my fabric is a bit thicker than ordinary jersey so I eliminated it. The pattern is only three pieces, front, back, and sleeves. If you […]

Burdastyle stretch pencil skirt

I always like high waisted pencil skirt and have made them several times. This high waisted denim skirt that I made a couple of years ago is particularly a favorite, but recently I have found that my waist is getting smaller. The wide band of the skirt has boning in it so the waistband sticks out around my waist in a strange way. Maybe I should have altered it but I decided to make a new skirt! This time I use Burdastyle pattern, Stretch Pencil Skirt 02/2011 #103A. It is a pencil skirt made with stretch fabric, with wide waistband and […]

Sports bra and leggings (and a birthday)

The knee-length yoga leggings that I made last July are one of the most-worn item that I’ve ever made. But since the weather got cold, I have gone back to wearing my old store-bought leggings. I suppose it is time to make another leggings! I have been learning more about sewing workout wear through Sew and Draft Your Own Personal 7 Piece Workout Wear Collection course that was sent to me by Burdastyle. In one of the lessons, Meg Healy (the instructor) teaches how to develop the basic leggings sloper pattern into a pair of leggings with crotch gusset. The gusset is drafted in […]

Red knit dress

I’ve been wanting to have a simple and comfortable knit dress for daily wear. It is not very easy to find the right fabric, medium weight fabric that is not too thick nor too thin. So when I spotted this red double jersey in the fabric store, I snatched it rightaway. They also have army green and black that I have bought as well. I was sent the Sew and Draft Your Own Personal 7 Piece Workout Wear Collection course by Burdastyle, and several knit slopers are included in the course. I’m still planning my workout wear collection, and in the meantime I […]

Hooded cowl neck dress

A new dres! The pattern is Burdastyle hooded cowl neck dress in grey jersey. I love how simple and easy to sew the pattern is, while looking so interesting with the giant cowl neck. The description of the pattern: “This cowl neck dress has a deep cowl that can be transformed into a hood whenever the mood strikes. It has long sleeves and can be worn in the winter months with high boots and tights.” The pattern only has three pieces. The cowl neck is integrated to the front bodice pattern, making the front bodice pattern looking very interesting. I made all the seams […]

Summer date dress

Since Sidra entered Junior High School, he becomes very busy with all the school activities. He even has to be at school on weekends for his sports club activity. My husband and I got a bit lost on what to do as the three of us usually did things together on weekends. But we have to get used to this. Eventually Sidra will have to be by himself as he grows up so maybe it is time to start letting him go. One of the thing that my husband and I are starting to do at weekends is having a […]

Shortie shorts

Summer is coming and it means shorts season! Sometime ago I bought BurdaStyle Retro Classics Pattern Collection which have 9 patterns from the 1950s-60s, one of them is pattern for these shorts. I’m not sure what’s so retro about them but I quite like the double pleats on the front. As usual for Burdastyle patterns, I printed them at 92% at cut size 38. They are quite short though, so I lengthened the hem about 5 cm. The fabic is cotton twill with a bit of stretch on them. Sewing the shorts was quite straightforward. The only thing that I don’t […]

Yogawear

I have started to go to a yoga class several months ago, in addition to daily exercise at home. After seeing Gingermakes’ post about her yoga leggings, I got very inspired to make my own! I considered using Fehr Trade Steeplechase Leggings pattern like her, but at the end I chose Ooh La Leggings by Papercut Patterns. The reason was because I’ve used Papercut Patterns several times before with good result. I had no idea about what kind of fabric that I should use, so I picked this black soft ponte knit at the store.  The content is 73% polyester, 21% rayon, […]

Sandra jeans and Basic tank

I made a new pair of jeans! Actually they were made a couple of weeks ago, and I have been wearing them a lot ever since. The pattern is Sandra narrow leg jeans by Style Arc, a classic narrow legs jeans with contoured waistband slightly below waist. I love this pattern since I made them last year, the first one that I made get lots of wear. The fabric is dark denim, it has less stretch than the previous jeans so the fit is a bit different. I find it funny that you can see a dachshund in these pictures, similar to the one in […]

Burdastyle Wide Sleeve Lapel Jacket

This is my favorite jacket in the last couple of months. You have probably seen me wearing it to Sidra’s elementary school graduation here. The pattern is Wide Sleeve Lapel Jacket 02/2015 #122 from Burdastyle. The jacket has boxy shape with wide straight sleeves, wide lapel, and wide back pleats. It is an unlined jacket with no closure so it’s perfect for when the weather is not too cold. The jacket reminds me of my old jacket that I made in 2010. I lost it during a visit to IKEA! So sad. The fabric is wool in this undescribable color. Recently I have […]
