Soma swimsuit

I made a swimsuit! The pattern is Soma swimsuit by Papercut Patterns. I made size XXS, with the only alteration was shortening the bottom part about 1 cm. Instead of elastic strap, I just use the foldover elastic for all the binding and straps. The fabris was lined with skin-colored swimsuit lining.   It was an easy sewing and I love how little fabric are needed for this swimsuit. I still have enough leftover for another swimsuit, but I guess one is enough for this year.

Review: The Express Corset Making Course

I always love to learn how something works. When I was a child, my favorite book was ‘How Things Work’. In the sewing world itself, there is still so many things that I don’t understand and want to learn. People often says, ‘Isn’t it difficult to make this or that?’ Of course everything is difficult when you don’t understand, but there is a satisfaction when your brain is slowly figuring out how something works. In pursue of this satisfaction, a couple of years ago I learned to make a corset. It was a very satisfying experience and I really love […]

Yogawear

I have started to go to a yoga class several months ago, in addition to daily exercise at home. After seeing Gingermakes’ post about her yoga leggings, I got very inspired to make my own! I considered using Fehr Trade Steeplechase Leggings pattern like her, but at the end I chose Ooh La Leggings by Papercut Patterns. The reason was because I’ve used Papercut Patterns several times before with good result. I had no idea about what kind of fabric that I should use, so I picked this black soft ponte knit at the store.  The content is 73% polyester, 21% rayon, […]

Slip dress and panties

I like to wear a slip under my unlined dress to keep them from clinging. So when I found this very soft white jersey in a sale box, I immediately got to work and turned it into a slip dress! The jersey is very soft and stretchy, very comfortable against the skin. The pattern is Merckwaerdigh O2, described as: “Pattern O2 from Dutch design Merckwaerdigh with a lovely underwired bra-shirt and a close fitted slipdress. Comes in sizes S till XXL for the slipdress and for the bra-shirt”. I’ve used this pattern before to make this nude and black underwired bra […]

Sewing in 2014

Happy New Year! The three of us caught influenza just a few days before new year so we didn’t do anything special this year. We are better now and hopefully next week we can go out and enjoy the holiday. Except for my husband who has to go back to work. Boo! Anyway, here’s a compilation of all the sewing I did in 2014. I love doing this every year so I can see what kind of things that I should make more, make less, or stop making. For myself: Surprisingly only two dresses! They didn’t get much wear either so maybe […]

Selfish Sewing Week – Ensis tee

Summer is over and Fall is coming! It means that I have to start preparing for transitional clothes before the weather gets too cold. It also happens that this week is Selfish Sewing Week – 2014 Fall edition! The perfect time to think about what I want to make for myself and not feeling guilty for not even starting on my husband’s jeans or make another jeans that my son requested. I’m very honored to be one of featured stitchers once again. I was supposed to make the Holly jumpsuit by By Hand London but the pattern hasn’t reached me […]

Colorful dotty set

After my initial failure with my previous bra, I decided to make the pattern again with simpler design. The black ribbons of my intial design are interesting but I will use other pattern with them. So here is makeBra #DL05 in colordul dotty lycra fabric! I also made more alterations to the cups because this pattern is one cup size smaller than what I usually wear. I raised the center front bridge of the previous bra, but I kept the original one on this one. The plunging neckline is quite attractive in my opinion. So instead of adding to the top of the […]

Striped Jorna dress- Perfect Pattern Parcel #3

My summer dress! The pattern is Jorna Tank Dress by Jenna Brand. It is a very simple dress with basically just one piece of pattern. The front and back is the same except for the neckline. The dress has three different length options: tank, jumper, and dress. I cut the jumper in size XS but since I’m not tall it becomes knee-length dress on me. The neckline and armholes are finished with facing so they are a bit stiffer than the usual knit band finish, but it gives a very clean appearance. Instead of using the facing pattern, I cut the facing using the same front/back pattern […]

Running belt

Since I moved to Japan my weight had been slowly creeping up. In the last 6 years I gained 6 kg, while before my weight stayed more or less the same since the college days. Recently I put on one of my handmade dress and it was tight around the waist! It was time to do something. I decided to start doing exercise and running. I have to admit that I’m not big on exercise, mostly I spend my days on the couch behind my notebook. But there is a beautiful jogging track near my house so it would be a […]

Giveaway: JORD wood watch! – CLOSED

Something a little different today! Several weeks ago I got an email from JORD, introducing their line of wood watches and offered me to review a watch of my chosen model. I don’t usually wear wristwatch but actually I like them, especially the classic wristwatch with metal link bands. So when I opened JORD website to look at the watches, I was very intrigued to see such unique twist of the classic style. For my complimentary watch, I chose one from the Ely series in the color maple. The Ely series has small face that is suitable for my wrist. You can […]
