October 13th, 2008 | lifeThe sun is shining and the weather is perfect, so yesterday we went picnic to Shinjuku park and spent the whole day playing balls and lying around. On the way home, we stopped by Sekaido because my husband wanted to buy some acrylic paints and brushes. It’s a four-storey building near the park, selling stationery and craft supplies. I bought some stuffs myself; freezer paper for stencils and a stencil sponge brush, a package of 4 stamp ink, rubber squares for stamp and a gouge knife for carving the rubber. I never tried freezer-paper stencils or making my own rubber stamp before, so I’m gonna have some fun trying them out. October 12th, 2008 | life
Sidra went to school yesterday, so my husband and I used our time together to go to Jinbōchō, an area in Tokyo popular for of its used-book stores and antique and curio shopping area. Heaven for book lovers. I found these wallet-size photos in one bookstore, specialized in fashion, music, and movie related stuffs. Apparently they are from a 1993 German movie, titled “Prince in Hell or Prinz in Hölleland“, as stated on the other side of each picture. Of course I have no idea what kind of movie is that, I was just interested with the images. Especially of that shouting (screaming?) woman with hoop earrings. So what’ll I do with them? Well, I’m not really sure yet. I think they’ll make interesting gift tags. October 10th, 2008 | bags and pursesOctober 10th, 2008 | bags and purses My husband has been saying that he wants a new tote bag, so I made this reversible tote for him; made of natural-fibres fabric that we bought last weekend in Cottonfield, Kichijoji. I’ve read about this fabric store in this very useful flickr album of movinghands, and it is indeed such a lovely little place. The place is only two storeys, so it’s not as big nor as overwhelming as Yuzawaya. Perfect when I don’t have enough time in Kichijoji. I especially love the rows of little shelves filled with neatly folded fabric, each about 50 cm in lengths.
For the tote bag, I use burlap fabric in natural color on one side. And on the other side is thick linen in red polkadot (don’t look at me, my husband chose the fabrics himself). The tote is a little bigger than his other totes (he has plenty!), about 40 by 45 cm. Each side has a pocket with little piece of linen ribbon sewn on the pocket side as fabric labels. I really like those fabric label stuffs. The pockets are also lined with its complementary fabric. No pattern was used for the bag, I just drew directly on the fabric with a ruler and fabric-marking pen. The bag turned out big and sack-like, enough for all his stuffs. I really like the coarse texture of the burlap side, and the red polkadot side looks really nice too. Now I want to steal this bag. October 6th, 2008 | womenswearThe bodice area is lengthened and a hood added. The hood pattern was traced from my husband’s hooded cardigan, with the neckline adjusted to the neckline of the dress. I also made a pleated area on the front, but instead of stitches, it is held by two buttons; creating an illusion of front opening. The sleeves are on fabric selvedge so I didn’t have to stitch the hem. Worn with a simple petticoat underneath, the dress turned out nice and really comfortable. Love it. Now I’m thinking of every possibilities to use this pattern again. Maybe I should make a coat out of it. | DisclaimerThis is my personal site, therefore all views expressed here represent my own and shouldn't be taken as expert opinions.
