Apples dress

I think I’ve wanted too many things when I started sewing this colourful cotton fabric; pipings, collar, princess seam, ruffles. It ended looking like a toddler dress, and when I put it on, it looked so costumey. So it went back to the sewing room again. I just chopped off the old bodice and made a new one. Fortunately I’m on the small side, so the scraps are enough for a whole new bodice. This time, I only played with a little pleats on the button area and use bindings to finish the neckline and armholes. There. Now I’m happy.

Dotty dress

This is another fabric from nani IRO line by Naomi Ito, featuring colourful dots on grey background. I love the strips of colourful dots on the selvedge and random placement of the dots on the rest of the fabric. I use the selvedge on the V-neckline and the dress hem. The pattern is from a Japanese pattern book, a loose dress with cute ruffled sleeves. Those Japanese pattern books are so cute, I just can’t stop making stuffs from them. I was feeling lazy, so I thought that the dress would be finished tomorrow, but it turned out that it […]

Striped dress

The fabric was bought in Okadaya, a fabric store in Shinjuku, and I thought it would be perfect for another dress. The base pattern is still from a Japanese pattern book, but I changed the sleeves and added some pleats and handstitches details on the sleeves and chest. I think it’ll look good worn with some belt too. I did this one slowly, enjoying the process of making it. This little thing makes me happy. Base pattern is from Stylish dress book.

Batik tunic/dress

Sue me for sewing so much. I just can’t stop doing this. It just happened that I have another batik fabric that I brought from Jakarta, so I turned it into a tunic/dress. The pattern is from a Japanese book pattern, and I added a belt from the same fabric. Happy with the result. Pattern is from Stylish dress book.

Purple dress

There’s yet another wall hanging fabric in purple, perfect for another summer dress. These fabrics were very comfortable, made of natural fibers, with interesting faded colors due to dust and sunlight from being hung on the wall. I chose a pattern from the pattern book I bought the other day. It was simpler than the previous dress, but turned out a bit more complicated in the making because I used binding to finish the armholes and necklines. I added a line of thin lace that I bought inYuzawaya to the neckline. Worn the next day for a lunch in Yoyogi and […]

Summer dress

After I got my Janome sewing machine, I got this huge craving for sewing stuffs. But I didn’t have enough time to go to Yuzawaya to browse on some fabrics. So I took a look around the house and saw that red fabric hanging on the wall. It was cotton, so it would be perfect for a summer dress. It’s a very simple dress, with wide neck opening and loose fitting, eliminating the need for buttons or zipper that I didn’t have anyway.I added two pockets on the side-seams because I just love dresses with side-seam pockets. The raw edges […]
