Year: 2011

(Sewing) Life in 2011

So, what happened in my life during the year 2011? Definitely a lot, but since this blog is supposed to be a sewing blog, I’m going to talk about everything sewing-related. One of the most important decision that I made was to close my etsy shop. There are so many things that I want to learn, and I feel that making things for the shop had taken too much of my time. I used to make easy and quick clothes that don’t need too much fitting, but this year I’ve learned to take more time for my projects for better […]

Peach and grey lingerie set

Making bra and panties is a sort of instant gratification for me. They only need little fabrics and don’t need much space for cutting the pattern. And with each lingerie project that I’ve finished, I gained more knowledge on what way is the best for attaching things. This new set was made with bra and lingerie notions set from Merckwaerdigh. The set has peach lycra fabric with textured swirl pattern, stretch lace in peach and grey, and grey elastics. I especially love the pretty shoulder straps!   The bra pattern is Pin-up Girls Classic Bra #1230, a classic full band bra that […]

Grey flared pants

A leftover project! The fabric is grey wool blend leftover from my husband’s pants. It was quite a lot so initially I cut them for my pants, but something went wrong and I ended up with two left legs (>_<). So I cut them again to make a pair of pants for Sidra. The pattern is from a Japanese pattern book, シンプル&ちょこっとデザイン おんなの子服おとこの子服. I’ve used this pattern before for Sidra’s corduroy pants, but this time I changed the shape of the legs, flaring them a bit. This is a similar alteration that I did on my husband’s pants. The pants has patch […]

Taffy blouse and Meringue Skirt

Here’s a couple of projects that I made from Colette Sewing Handbook. I really love this book! I just can’t stop reading it cover to cover. The book has five patterns for size 0-18 in it, but this is not just a pattern book. It covers all the basic knowledge about garment construction with clear explanation and step by step pictures. I love that it also covers about good fitting, types of alteration and how to do it. My first Colette pattern is Negroni that I’ve used to make countless shirts for my husband. Taffy blouse would be my first Colette women’s pattern, this is quite a […]

On the sewing table

These last couple of days I’ve been working on this little number from the Colette Sewing Handbook. The book  was as one of my birthday book gifts from my husband. It is such a gorgeous book! The fabric is mustard yellow charmeuse found in my favorite local shop that sells cheap out of print/end of bolt  fabric. It had a nice sheen, draped beautifully, and was easy to sew. The silvery beige bindings was also made from charmeuse, but it was more flimsy than the yellow fabric so sewing them was quite a challenge. Unfortunately it is raining the whole […]

Wide-leg wool pants (vintage Simplicity 6108)

Thank you for all the warm wishes on my 40th birthday! It is so wonderful to be able to share the day with so many people around the world. Isn’t internet an amazing thing? Once again, thank you so much! So I finished sewing a pair of pants yesterday and took some pictures today. Sorry for the quality of the pictures, the sun is not very friendly today. It has been raining since morning. The pattern is vintage seventies Simplicity 6108 that I got for USD 1 from this etsy seller. From the pattern envelope: Misses’proportioned straight leg and wide leg pants. […]

Fall jacket (Minoru by Sewaholic)

Finally I can post about this jacket! This is my favorite jacket at the moment, I’ve been wearing it everyday and loving every moment of it. The pattern is the newly-released Minoru jacket by the talented Tasia from Sewaholic. I was fortunate to be one of the pattern testers who can have a try-out weeks before its release. When I saw the pattern for the first time, I was very excited! It is definitely created with a woman’s figure in mind. The jacket has gathered neckline and raglan sleeves, front zipper, and an optional secret hood hidden inside the […]

Red cowl dress (Vogue 2333: Diane Von Furstenberg)

I was preparing to make the pants that I talked about in the last post when this pattern came through the mail slot. It was a vintage Vogue 2333 – Diane von Furstenberg pattern, probably from the late 70’s or early 80’s.  From the pattern envelope: “Very loose-fitting, pullover dress with bias blouson bodice and straight skirt, five inches (12.5 cm) below mid-knee or evening length, has front cowl neckline, elasticized waistline, side front slanted pockets, side hemline slits and short kimono sleeves. Self belt has D-rings and edgestitch trim.” The pattern is labelled as ‘very easy’, and who can resist such an […]

Birthday pants

Yesterday was my husband’s 41st birthday! We made a little celebration in the morning, blowing candles and eating ice cream cake. Sidra gave my husband a handmade card with his own drawing on it and a little gift.
